    The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar on the first trading day of September, weakening to 4.0370/0410 from 4.0230/0270 on Friday, amid expectations of a US interest rate hike following Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium. The currency also fell against a basket of major currencies but strengthened against the euro and Thai baht.
