Malayan tiger population under 150, Korbu patrol team needs more hands
At the Global Tiger Day and World Ranger Day 2026 celebration in Pos Yum, Perak, conservation group Rimau stated that while patrol efforts have increased and snares are fewer, more patrollers and funding are needed to protect the Malayan tiger, particularly in the Korbu forest landscape. The group highlighted that the Korbu Patrolling Team, which employs Orang Asli Temiar community members, has only 31 patrollers against an estimated requirement of 65 to 70.
