BERSIH demands Najib serve remaining jail term, rejects house arrest
BERSIH is demanding that Datuk Seri Najib Razak serve the rest of his prison sentence and is opposing any move by the Pardons Board to grant the former prime minister house arrest. Its executive director, Asraf Sharafi, said this at a press conference at BERSIH's office in Petaling Jaya, a day before the board meets. He argued that special treatment for high-profile individuals would create a dangerous double standard and undermine the rule of law.

Appeals court cuts Puchong businessman's jail term for assaulting wife to 5 years
The High Court in Shah Alam reduced a businessman's 16-year jail sentence for assaulting his wife to five years, calling the original term 'extremely excessive'. The court also set aside the caning, ruling that the relevant penal code sections do not provide for it. The assault took place at the couple's home in Puchong four years ago.
