Federal government agrees to raise Sabah, Sarawak parliamentary seats
The MTPMA63 meeting in Kota Kinabalu decided that the ratio of Sabah and Sarawak parliamentary seats will be increased from the current position. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said a constitutional amendment is needed and the mechanism and final ratio have yet to be detailed. Sabah currently has 25 seats and Sarawak 31, making 56 of the 222 Dewan Rakyat seats.

Fadhlina: MA63 commitment to Sabah, Sarawak must not be seasonal
PKR Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek said the commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 for Sabah and Sarawak must be consistent rather than raised only during elections. She said education issues raised by both states, including teacher recruitment and dilapidated schools, have been resolved together. Earlier, she attended the MTPMA63 meeting chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu.

Anwar wants MA63 made a national narrative
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wants the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to become part of the national narrative rather than being seen only as a Sabah and Sarawak issue. He said this after chairing the 2026 MA63 Implementation Action Council meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu today. Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg were present, with Abang Johari backing the proposal.

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah today for programmes tied to the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) Meeting No. 1 of 2026. He is due at a dinner with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sabah leaders at The Magellan Sutera Resort tonight, and at the MTPMA63 meeting tomorrow at the Sabah International Convention Centre, chaired by Anwar. Sabah will be represented by Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.

PM Anwar to chair MA63 council meeting in Kota Kinabalu on Friday
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will chair the MA63 Implementation Action Council meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu this Friday, September 11. The meeting will be attended by Sarawak Premier Abang Johari and hosted by Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, and will discuss matters related to the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
