Bukit Merah sanctuary aims to build 50-strong orangutan assurance population
The Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation in Perak plans to expand its sanctuary to house an assurance population of about 50 orangutans over the next 15-20 years. The move is a safety net against a potential collapse of wild orangutan populations. The sanctuary currently houses 15 orangutans, including one-year-old Orked.
