Penang defends Taman Manggis PPR evictions, says units needed for genuinely poor
The Penang state government has defended its phased eviction of residents from the Taman Manggis People's Housing Project (PPR) in George Town, saying background checks found some residents owned luxury vehicles and businesses. State housing chairman S. Sundarajoo said 19 units have been acted on so far, with 103 more cases to be processed, and that alternative housing and rent-to-own options were offered.

Court of Appeal upholds RM920,508 award against Penang condo developer over defects
The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya dismissed Melariang Sdn Bhd's appeal against a High Court order to pay RM920,508 over defects at The Cantonment condominium in Jalan Cantonment, George Town. The defects included 101 missing fire doors, a wet riser room, pool leakage and car park water ponding. The developer must also pay RM50,000 in appeal costs.

PDC opens proposals for 15.8-acre Batu Kawan commercial land at RM75 psf

The 688,527 sq ft site carries a reserve price of RM75 psf, implying a minimum value of about RM51.64 million. Proposals must state the purchase price, payment method and development plans, with PDC retaining sole discretion over evaluation.

Penang Housing Board: Taman Manggis Eviction Was Last Resort After Due Process
The Penang State Housing Board (LPNPP) has stated that the eviction of units at the PPR Taman Manggis in Georgetown was a final step after thorough cross-checking and engagement processes. The action was taken against tenants who violated terms, such as owning other property or exceeding income limits. LPNPP also denied claims of no alternatives, recommending the Rent-To-Own scheme for eligible residents.

Eppendorf leases 11.82-acre Bandar Cassia site for first Southeast Asian plant
German life sciences company Eppendorf SE has leased an 11.82-acre site at Bandar Cassia Technology Park in Batu Kawan, Penang, from the Penang Development Corporation for 60 years to build its first Southeast Asian manufacturing facility. The company plans to invest about €40 million (RM186 million) in the plant, with construction expected to begin in Q4 2026 and production starting in 2028, creating around 130 jobs by 2029.
