Fahmi: Wear N95 masks at Kuching Malaysia Day fireworks as haze persists
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Malaysia Day 2026 fireworks at Kuching Waterfront will go ahead as scheduled, but advised the public to wear N95 masks outdoors amid the haze. He spoke after opening the national-level Malaysia Day exhibition at Plaza Merdeka, which runs until Sept 16 and features the history of Malaysia's formation.

Sarawak targets 9 new OSEIC centres by 2030, RM30m for special needs centre in Samarahan
Sarawak plans to set up nine more One-Stop Early Intervention Centres (OSEIC) by 2030 to expand early intervention services for children with special needs. The state government has also approved RM30 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan for the first phase of the Sarawak Special Needs Community Centre in Samarahan, expected to be completed by May 2028. As of 31 December 2025, 745 children have received OSEIC services.

Dr Sim: palliative care awareness must start young
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said awareness of palliative care must be nurtured in society from a young age to build compassion and empathy. He spoke to reporters after officiating the Northbank Business Exchange in Kuching on Monday, citing the Batu Kawa palliative care initiative and a projection that about 30,000 people in Sarawak will need such care by 2030.

Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching administered East Malaysia's first targeted radionuclide therapy for advanced prostate cancer on Aug 27, using Lu-177 PSMA-617. The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) is targeting an official launch of its facility in the third quarter of 2027, according to CEO Prof Dr Ivan Yap Kok Seng. He spoke at the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 at Imperial Hotel, Kuching, launched by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Five strategic cooperation documents were signed, including with Institut Pasteur du Cambodge and BIOTEC Thailand for infectious disease research and regional pandemic preparedness.

First Women's Care Room for nurses launched at Sarawak General Hospital
The National Welfare Foundation (YKN) launched its first Women's Care Room at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) in Kuching. The facility provides a comfortable rest area for female nurses, especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, officiated the facility, which is sponsored by Perinsuran Brokar Sdn. Bhd.

Free dog license, vaccination on September 5
