Cop charged with four counts of sexual assault on underage girl in Beaufort
A 46-year-old police corporal was charged in the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court with four counts of physical sexual assault against a girl who was 14 and 15 at the time. The alleged offences took place in Beaufort between February 2024 and July 2025. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of RM6,000 per charge.

Couple and son charged in Kota Kinabalu with trafficking three children for forced labour
A 54-year-old shop owner, her husband and their son were charged in the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday with seven counts of trafficking three undocumented children for forced labour exploitation. The alleged offences took place at a mini market in Kampung Melaman, Sipitang, between 2019 and April this year. All three pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of RM3,000 per charge, with pre-trial case management set for Oct 14.

Keningau court fines two restaurant operators RM7,600 for Socso registration failure
Two restaurant operators in Keningau were fined a total of RM7,600 by the Magistrate's Court for failing to register their businesses with the Social Security Organisation (Socso). The offences were committed at their premises in 2025. Both pleaded guilty and have paid their fines.

Zara Qairina inquest: Father says memory issues prevent recall of key events
The Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu heard testimony from Mahathir Mohd Hashim, the father of the late Zara Qairina, who said he is forgetful and cannot recall major events in her life, including her birthday. He testified he stopped living with Zara and her mother around 2017 due to disagreements. The inquest into the 13-year-old's death, who was found under her dormitory building in July 2025, resumes on Sept 9.

Zara Qairina's father tells coroner he last saw her in 2017 in Sipitang
The Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu heard testimony from the father of the late Zara Qairina, who said he last met his daughter around 2017 in Sipitang. Mahathir, the 80th witness, told the court he had not lived with Zara and her mother since then, only contacting them by phone. He also said he was in Beaufort when he received a message on July 16, 2025, that Zara was in the emergency unit.
