Terengganu proposes 2-year closure of 4 Redang coral sites after 80% damage
Four snorkelling and diving sites around Pulau Redang in Terengganu have been proposed for a two-year closure to allow severely damaged coral reefs to recover. The proposal, submitted by resort operators and Reef Check Malaysia, cites over 80% coral damage at the sites, primarily due to human activities like tourists touching corals and boats dropping anchors. State tourism committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris said the proposal will be discussed with federal agencies.

NRES: 230 million metric tons of plastic waste expected worldwide by 2040

NRES Deputy Secretary-General said 230 million metric tons of plastic waste is projected to pollute the world by 2040, urging systematic monitoring. Over 100 participants collected 165 kg of waste.

Leatherback turtle returns to nest at Terengganu beach after nine-year absence
A leatherback turtle nested at Pasir Putih beach in Marang, Terengganu, last Wednesday, marking its first return to the location in nine years. A local turtle egg leaseholder found 44 eggs and sent them to the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre in Rantau Abang for incubation.

Leatherback Turtle Returns to Terengganu After a Decade
A Leatherback turtle, the world's largest turtle species, has returned to nest on the coast of Terengganu after nearly a decade, with the last sighting in 2017. The discovery was made on 1 September at Pantai Marang, where tracks and a nest with 44 eggs were found by the Terengganu State Fisheries Office. The eggs have been moved to a hatchery in Rantau Abang, and the turtle is expected to return to lay more eggs during the season.
