Borderland Music Festival returns to Sarawak Cultural Village for fourth edition
The fourth edition of the Borderland Music Festival was held on Sept 11 and 12 at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Kuching. Returning festivalgoers from Sabah said a stronger DJ lineup and livelier crowd drew them back, while first-timers called the trip worthwhile.

Hoan Gallery launches 'Under Sarawak Skies' with 100 artworks on Sept 16
Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall in Kuching will launch the 'Under Sarawak Skies' exhibition on Sept 16, featuring over 100 artworks by more than 30 regional and local artists. 39 Sarawak artists turn plain boxes into 60 artworks at Kuching exhibition
The Headbox (Art and/or Mask) Exhibition at Wesberly Galleria on Rubber Road West in Kuching features over 60 works by 39 local artists who were each given a plain box to transform. Curator Hung Chang Wong arranged the pieces in a zigzag 'Green Caterpillar' layout to explore themes of identity, history and perception.

AIM25 makes history in Sarawak, finale at BCCK Kuching on Sept 26
The 25th Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM25) will be held in Sarawak for the first time, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on 26 September, in conjunction with Malaysia Day. Winners of 16 main categories will share RM950,000 in funding from the Communications Ministry through MyCreative Ventures, with performances by artists including Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and Indonesia's Fajar Noor.

Dr Sim launches Nan Qiao Ji Gong memorial at Palmarium Park, Kuching
A memorial honouring the Nan Qiao Ji Gong - overseas Chinese volunteers, including over 100 from Sarawak, who drove trucks on the Burma Road during World War Two - was launched at Palmarium Park near the MBKS headquarters in Kuching on Friday night. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak's 80 years of peace and stability were built on earlier generations' sacrifices and must not be taken for granted. China's Consul-General in Kuching, Xing Weiping, also spoke at the event.

Daughter returns to Kuching for Sarawak liberation anniversary, father's wartime diary remembered
Anne Read, 73, returned to Kuching for the 81st anniversary of Sarawak's liberation from Japanese occupation, attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the Sarawak World War II Liberation Monument in Pending. Her father, Hugh Humphrey, was a civilian internee at the Batu Lintang camp who secretly kept a diary during his internment. She visited the former camp site and laid a wreath, noting the trip coincided with the 25th anniversary of her father's death.

Kuching marks 81st anniversary of Sarawak's liberation from Japanese occupation
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Sarawak World War II Liberation Monument near Pending Hawker Centre in Kuching on Sept 11, marking the date Sarawak was liberated from Japanese occupation in 1945. MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng paid tribute to soldiers, prisoners of war and civilians who suffered, and urged Kuchingites to remember the monument as where peace began in Sarawak.

Daughter lays wreath in Kuching for father held at Batu Lintang POW camp
Anne Read, 73, visited Kuching to lay a wreath at the Sarawak World War II Liberation Monument near Pending Hawker Centre, honouring her father Arthur Hugh Peters Humphrey, a British civilian internee held at the Batu Lintang POW camp from 1942 until liberation. Hugh kept a secret diary during his captivity, a copy of which is now held at the Imperial War Museum in London. The visit coincided with the 25th anniversary of his death in 2001.
