China national denies raping woman in Kuching, remanded at Puncak Borneo Prison
A 53-year-old China national pleaded not guilty at the Kuching Sessions Court to raping a 46-year-old woman inside a room near a food premises along Jalan Tun Jugah on Sept 1. The judge denied bail and ordered him remanded at Puncak Borneo Prison, with pre-trial case management set for Oct 14.

Five teens in Kuching admit gang robbery, sent to Henry Gurney School
The Sessions Court in Kuching on Monday ordered five male teenagers to be placed at Henry Gurney School in Puncak Borneo after they pleaded guilty to gang robbery. The robbery took place at a convenience store along Jalan Tun Jugah at about 4am on June 1, where a 19-year-old worker was threatened with a machete and wooden sticks and about RM1,000 in cash and cigarettes were taken. Two 18-year-olds will be held until they turn 21, while the three younger accused, aged 14 and 15, were each ordered to spend three years at the juvenile rehabilitation facility.

Sarawak police chief tells journalists to approach OCPDs for case details
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said journalists in the state may contact district police chiefs to get information or clarification on police cases. Mourners bid farewell to nurse Debra Moset at Kampung Semadang funeral
Hundreds gathered at St Patrick's Chapel in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, on Monday to pay last respects to Flying Doctor Service nurse Debra Moset, 40, one of five killed in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang last week. Her niece Lizfornia Derik delivered a eulogy calling her a dedicated nurse who served others until the end of her life. Debra leaves behind her husband and two children.

John Then Hua said the couple had taken a holiday in Singapore a week before the crash, and that she had been looking forward to moving into their new home in Kampung Semadang. Five others died in the crash, including the pilot and a medical officer.

59 Indonesians detained in Ops Sapu raids around Kuching
Malaysian Immigration in Sarawak detained 59 Indonesian nationals in Ops Sapu at three locations around Kuching city from 12 September to yesterday. A total of 92 individuals were screened, with those held suspected of various immigration offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63. All detainees were taken for further action.

Debra Moset's family in Kampung Semadang mourns loss after Long Lellang helicopter crash
The family of the late Debra Moset, who died in a helicopter crash involving the Flying Doctor Service in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram last Tuesday, is grieving at their home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan. Her mother, Renog Rasas, said Debra had asked her to help clean a new house where the family planned to celebrate Christmas together. Debra's remains arrived home today and she will be buried tomorrow.

Lorry falls into drain at Jalan Mendu after unauthorised structure collapses, MBKS reminds owners to get approval
A seven-tonne lorry fell into a drain at Jalan Mendu in Kuching on Friday morning when an unauthorised structure covering the drain collapsed under its weight. Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who inspected the site, reminded property owners to obtain approval before building structures over public drains, citing Section 136 of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. The driver was not injured.

Nurse killed in FDS helicopter crash buried in Semadang
Debra Moset, a 40-year-old nurse killed in the Perkhidmatan Doktor Udara (FDS) helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Baram, Miri, last Tuesday, was brought home to her new house in Kampung Semadang, Kuching for a final tribute. Her body arrived at Kuching International Airport at about 10am and will be buried at St Patrick Cemetery, Semadang tomorrow. The crash also killed pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, nurse Jessie Paya Jok and medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry.

The mother of nurse Debra Moset said her daughter had planned to celebrate Christmas at her new house in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, before the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang. Renog Rasas, 71, spoke at the funeral wake on Sunday, which about 1,000 people attended, and recalled Debra's final message asking her to help tidy the house. Debra, 40, had worked in Miri and was part of the FDS team.

Bau police check 150 vehicles, arrest one man in integrated crime op
Police in Bau, Sarawak ran an integrated crime prevention operation around Pekan Tondong, Redeems Singai, Singai and the Bau/Kuching road last night. They checked 150 vehicles and 160 people, issued 12 traffic summonses, and arrested one man after a urine screening test under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Cook dies after car skids into ditch on Jalan Sungai Moyan
A 41-year-old cook died after the Perodua Kenari he was driving skidded and flipped into a ditch on Jalan Sungai Moyan in Kuching early this morning. Jeffery Dion was pronounced dead at the scene by a Sarawak General Hospital assistant medical officer. Padawan police are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Euodia Then Suling, 15, daughter of nurse Debra Moset who died in the FDS helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram on 8 September, is determined to become a doctor as her mother urged. She received her mother's remains at the family home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan today. The crash killed all five people on board the BO-105 helicopter.

Stakan assemblyman wants every JKKK to keep fire extinguishers
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim has proposed that every Village Development and Security Committee in his constituency be required to keep fire extinguishers at designated spots. Speaking after the Bomba community programme at Dewan Perpaduan Stakan in Taman Samarindah, he said JKKK annual allocations could be diverted from less urgent activities to buy the equipment. Kuching retail outlet fire put out after 11 hours
A fire at a retail chain near Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce in Kuching was fully extinguished at 2.54pm today after burning for about 11 hours. The blaze destroyed the first floor and severely damaged the second floor of the building. Four people were involved but reported safe, and the cause and losses are still under investigation.

Man arrested over cable theft on Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin, tests positive for drugs
A 37-year-old man was arrested in Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Kuching, after he was suspected of stealing cable on Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin. The Kuching district police chief said the suspect has five prior criminal records and tested positive for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
