At the 29th Singapore Lyricists and Composers Association awards held at the Sands Grand Ballroom in Marina Bay Sands on Sunday, Singaporean singers and songwriters Dick Lee and JJ Lin were the top winners. Both received the new Hall of Fame award for the first time.

BigHit Music, the agency behind BTS, will hold auditions for new male trainees in Singapore on Oct 24, 2026, at Metropolitan YMCA. The auditions are open to any male born in or after 2008, regardless of nationality, and similar on-site auditions will be held across Asia, North America and Australia. Online auditions are also open until Dec 5.

Tickets are on sale for The Story of Studio Ghibli, an immersive exhibition opening at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore on 18 December 2026. Spanning nearly 3,500 square metres, it is the largest presentation of the Studio Ghibli exhibition to date, with 12 life-sized recreated worlds including an eight-metre-tall bathhouse from Spirited Away.

Shaping Hearts 2026 opens at Punggol Digital District with artist-designed sensory playgrounds
The sixth Shaping Hearts inclusive arts festival launched at Punggol Digital District on Sept 13, with artists with disabilities co-creating four sensory playgrounds for visitors. Organised by the North East CDC, the 2026 edition under the theme Step Into Our World was attended by DPM Gan Kim Yong and Mayor Baey Yam Keng.

Over 200 artworks shown at Shaping Hearts 2026 in Punggol
Shaping Hearts 2026, an annual inclusive arts event by North East CDC, is displaying over 200 works by artists with disabilities at Punggol Digital District from 12 to 27 September. Among them is a strawberry artwork by Syarifah Alawiyah Alaydrus Syed Abdul Kadir, 8, a CPAS student with osteogenesis imperfecta. The sixth edition features four interactive playgrounds themed Texture, Movement, Rhythm and Visual.

24 Festive Drums draws 14,399 students from 352 schools
At the Educity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said 14,399 students from 352 schools have taken part in 24 Festive Drums as of 2025, with 68,781 participants since the art form began in Johor Bahru in 1988. The national-level Elite Competition 2026 featured 46 teams and 1,220 drummers, and an application for UNESCO recognition was submitted in March.

The Ilanthamizh Mandram held its Ilanthamizh Vizha at the National Library Board building in Singapore on Sunday, September 6. A special Tamil debate will be held on the second floor of Pek Kio Community Centre at 21 Gloucester Road, Singapore, on Saturday, September 12, starting at 6.30pm after refreshments at 5.30pm. The motion asks whether Singapore's next phase of growth needs innovative thinking or traditional values, with Yusof Rawther Rajid as judge. Admission is free.

New book on life in Occupied Singapore to launch at National Library on Sept 12
A new book, Remembering Syonan: 80 Objects From Occupied Singapore, tells the story of everyday life under the Japanese Occupation through personal artefacts such as labour identity booklets, ration cards and Sook Ching documents. It is co-authored by collectors Benjamin Seet and Dominic Tan and will be launched at the National Library on Sept 12, 81 years after the formal Japanese surrender.

New book uncovers 1,000 years of Malay history in Singapore
A heritage researcher, Mr Sarafian Salleh, 56, will launch his book '1000 Years of Sejarah Melayu in Singapore' on 12 September at The Pod, National Library Board (NLB). The book highlights Singapore's or Temasek's role as an important trading centre in Malay archipelago history, based on Persian explorers' records calling it 'Sabana Emporio'.

Tan Kiat How: Artistes may voice humanitarian concerns but must not undermine public order
In Singapore's parliament on Thursday, Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How said artistes may express humanitarian concerns about international conflicts but must not undermine public order, security or stability in Singapore. He stressed Singapore should not be used by foreigners as a platform for political causes, and that local and foreign artistes must abide by Singapore's laws and arts entertainment licence conditions. He was replying to MP Hazlina Abdul Halim on how authorities distinguish prohibited political advocacy from expressions of humanitarian concern.

The Lien Heng Cup-Lien Heng Lion Dance Open Championship 2026 will be held on Sept 26 and 27 at The Hills in Kuching, offering RM25,500 in prizes including RM8,000 for the champion. Meituan denies sending rider to Singapore for curry puffs after viral video
Chinese delivery giant Meituan has denied offering international delivery after a viral video showed a man in its uniform claiming he was paid to fly to Singapore to buy curry puffs.
