Studio Ghibli immersive exhibition opens at Gardens by the Bay on 18 December 2026
Tickets are on sale for The Story of Studio Ghibli, an immersive exhibition opening at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore on 18 December 2026. Spanning nearly 3,500 square metres, it is the largest presentation of the Studio Ghibli exhibition to date, with 12 life-sized recreated worlds including an eight-metre-tall bathhouse from Spirited Away.

A 'Momooviran' drama workshop by Agam Theatre Lab was held at Stamford Arts Centre on September 7 and 8 as part of the Tamil youth festival. Seventeen students took part, learning acting and stage skills.

Shaping Hearts 2026 opens at Punggol Digital District with artist-designed sensory playgrounds
The sixth Shaping Hearts inclusive arts festival launched at Punggol Digital District on Sept 13, with artists with disabilities co-creating four sensory playgrounds for visitors. Organised by the North East CDC, the 2026 edition under the theme Step Into Our World was attended by DPM Gan Kim Yong and Mayor Baey Yam Keng.

Over 200 artworks shown at Shaping Hearts 2026 in Punggol
Shaping Hearts 2026, an annual inclusive arts event by North East CDC, is displaying over 200 works by artists with disabilities at Punggol Digital District from 12 to 27 September. Among them is a strawberry artwork by Syarifah Alawiyah Alaydrus Syed Abdul Kadir, 8, a CPAS student with osteogenesis imperfecta. The sixth edition features four interactive playgrounds themed Texture, Movement, Rhythm and Visual.

24 Festive Drums draws 14,399 students from 352 schools
At the Educity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said 14,399 students from 352 schools have taken part in 24 Festive Drums as of 2025, with 68,781 participants since the art form began in Johor Bahru in 1988. The national-level Elite Competition 2026 featured 46 teams and 1,220 drummers, and an application for UNESCO recognition was submitted in March.

Ilanthamizh Vizha brings student contests to Singapore's National Library
The Ilanthamizh Mandram held its Ilanthamizh Vizha at the National Library Board building in Singapore on Sunday, September 6. Colouring and riddle contests were held for preschool and secondary students, with prizes given out from 4pm. Singapore Tamil Movement president R. Selvaraju was the guest of honour.

Tamil debate at Pek Kio CC: innovation or tradition for Singapore?
A special Tamil debate will be held on the second floor of Pek Kio Community Centre at 21 Gloucester Road, Singapore, on Saturday, September 12, starting at 6.30pm after refreshments at 5.30pm. The motion asks whether Singapore's next phase of growth needs innovative thinking or traditional values, with Yusof Rawther Rajid as judge. Admission is free.

Toei Animation store to open at Jewel Changi Airport on Oct 3
An official Toei Animation store will open at Jewel Changi Airport on Oct 3, taking over the space left by the One Piece-themed Mugiwara Store, which closed on Aug 31. The store will sell merchandise from Dragon Ball, One Piece, Digimon Adventure and Girls Band Cry, and will include photo spots, interactive experiences and a gacha-style photo-strip machine at S$3.50 per pull.

Jamiyah Singapore will hold its Maulidur Rasul 2026/1448H gathering on 19 September 2026 at Hall 2B, Singapore Expo. The event themed 'Kekasih Allah, Inspirasi Ummah' features preachers from Malaysia and Singapore and three regional nasyid groups. Lien Heng Cup lion dance championship returns to Kuching Sept 26-27 with RM25,500 prize pool
The Lien Heng Cup-Lien Heng Lion Dance Open Championship 2026 will be held on Sept 26 and 27 at The Hills in Kuching, offering RM25,500 in prizes including RM8,000 for the champion. Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said at least 23 teams from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore are expected, with organisers targeting 30. A 'Lion Spirit' photography competition with professional camera, mobile phone and short video categories will run alongside.

Singapore's first international Tamil theatre festival, 'Nadagamik', was held from August 20 to 30, featuring five foreign and three local plays. The festival, organized by the Agam theatre group, also included workshops for emerging artists and enthusiasts of all ages, such as 'Therukoothu 101', 'Vimneengal', 'The Art of Micro Drama', and 'Clowning'.
