Fruiting season, not haze, keeps Sepilok orang utan from feeding platform
A check at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sandakan found operations normal despite the haze, with fewer orang utan appearing at the feeding platform. A ranger said the main reason is the fruiting season inside the forest, which provides abundant food, not the hazy weather. Visitors still saw a mother orang utan with her baby near the walkway.

Sepilok Jazz 2026 draws 3,000 to Sandakan rainforest venue
About 3,000 people attended the two-night Sepilok Jazz 2026 festival at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sandakan, Sabah, from Friday. The event featured 18 bands and over 100 musicians, including Shila Amzah and Jeremy Monteiro, and has grown steadily since its 2022 debut.

Sepilok Jazz was held on September 4 and 5 at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok, Sandakan. The event used jazz music as a medium to promote the conservation of turtles at Pulau Libaran. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards turtle conservation programs on the island.
