UM to launch 121st anniversary celebration on Sept 19
Universiti Malaya will launch its 121st anniversary celebration (UM121) on 19 September 2026 at its campus. The launch will be officiated by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah, who is also UM Chancellor, and features the first Royal Brisk Walk with over 2,000 UM members. A series of UM121 programmes runs until December 2026.

Sunway Students and Seniors Mark Merdeka Together
Students from Sunway International Schools spent an afternoon with residents of Sunway Sanctuary at the school's Kuala Lumpur campus for a Merdeka-themed gathering. The session paired students with senior residents for activities and conversations aimed at bridging generations. Principal Richard Cherry said such interactions give students values and human connections beyond the classroom.

Zambry urges POLYCC to build AI culture on campus
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir called on polytechnic and community college leaders to embed artificial intelligence into campus culture. He said AI is not just about using apps but about working faster and producing job-ready graduates. The event in Shah Alam also launched the POLYCC Agentic AI League 2026 and the POLYCC AI Buddy platform, with PTSS Arau crowned champion.

25 Shah Alam students compete in NST junior journalist contest
Twenty-five students from four Shah Alam secondary schools took part in the inaugural New Straits Times Heard The News Junior Journalists Challenge. Shrilaxmi Harenath Rao of SMK Bukit Jelutong won, with Sanjanaah Mages Varan and Qaseh Nazatul Nabila Mohd Ridzuan of SMK TTDI Jaya second and third. The event, held for NST's 181st anniversary, was supported by the Petaling Perdana Education Office and sponsored by Nestle.

Penang student enters USM after caring for sick mother and siblings
Muhammad Adam Iskandar Azharunaim, 20, has begun his undergraduate studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia after years of caring for his cancer-stricken mother and three siblings, one of them disabled. His father died of Covid-19 five years ago and his mother died on 24 August. He had earlier turned down a place at UIAM and chose Form Six to stay with his family.

STPM top student who cared for siblings after mother's death starts at USM
Muhammad Adam Iskandar Azharunaim, 20, who looked after his three siblings after their mother died of brain cancer on 24 August, has begun his studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Georgetown. His father died of COVID-19 in 2021, and his 16-year-old brother, who is disabled, is studying culinary skills at SMK Serdang Baru in Kedah.

UKM and UiTM prepare to welcome new students
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam Campus are making preparations for their new student orientation weeks. At UKM, the Minggu Tekad Siswa involves 44 facilitators, while UiTM is running a five-day course for its MDS assistants before Minggu Destini Siswa is held both online and physically.

URIIS 2026 in KL links university research to investors

UPSI helps new student stranded in Batang Kali
A new UPSI student was stranded in Batang Kali, Selangor after her family's vehicle broke down on the way to Tanjung Malim for registration. UPSI sent a team to help, repaired the vehicle, provided accommodation and dinner, and gave RM2,232.35 in semester aid plus RM500 in alms.

MICPA recognises KPTM Bangi Diploma in Accounting
Kolej Poly-Tech Mara's Diploma in Accounting has been recognised by the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, opening a clearer route to the CPA (Malaysia) qualification. SMSS wins 51st Prime Minister's Cup Malay debate
In Cyberjaya, Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor (SMSS) won the 51st Prime Minister's Cup Malay-language debate after a 17-year wait, beating Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah. Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah took the English category, with each champion team receiving RM51,000 and the best debater RM2,000.
