Zara Qairina's father testifies police told him of death threat report against him
At the Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu, the father of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir testified that police informed him his ex-wife had allegedly lodged a report against him over a death threat. Mahathir Mohd Hashim, the 80th deponent, said he was questioned about how he allegedly hit and tortured Zara. The inquest into Zara's death, who was found under her dormitory building in July 2025, resumes on Sept 9.

Penampang man arrested in connection with murder of girlfriend following misunderstanding
A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Penampang, Sabah, for the murder of his 44-year-old girlfriend, who died after being assaulted following a misunderstanding. Police are investigating under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Man jailed for housebreaking, theft
A 34-year-old man was jailed a total of 31 months by the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu for two counts of housebreaking and theft in Penampang and Luyang. A second man, Wong Ming Teck, claimed trial for disposing of a stolen laptop linked to the case.

Man charged with injuring three with knife
A 37-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu with three counts of causing injury with a knife at Kg Muhibbah, Petagas, Putatan. In a separate case, two men were sentenced to seven months' jail for disposing of stolen gas cylinders in Jalan Kayu Madang.
