UN warns El Nino could become strongest on record, intensifying into 2027
The UN's World Meteorological Organization warned that the current El Nino could become the strongest since records began four decades ago, potentially surpassing the 2023-24 event. The phenomenon is expected to peak by the end of the year and persist until February, bringing risks of floods, drought, and extreme heat worldwide. UN chief Antonio Guterres said the world is in the "danger zone of extreme weather".
