13-month-old baby dies at babysitter's home in Air Itam; mother and sitter remanded

A 13-month-old baby was found unconscious at the babysitter's house in Kampung Melayu, Air Itam, Georgetown, yesterday and was confirmed dead at Penang Hospital. Police detained the mother and the babysitter to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001; the sitter was remanded seven days and the mother three. A post-mortem was done but the cause of death could not be determined pending lab results.
