G25: Hadi's bid to scrap civil law would create a theocracy
The G25 group of retired civil servants has warned that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's proposal to abolish the Civil Law Act 1956 would place one interpretation of Islamic law above the Federal Constitution and pave the way for a theocracy. The group said repealing the Act would create legal uncertainty, hurt investor confidence and damage Malaysia's Islamic finance industry, and rejected Hadi's claim that the law is colonial.
