Home Ministry: Date for citizenship amendment for overseas-born children set, awaiting announcement
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution said the constitutional amendment allowing Malaysian mothers to apply for citizenship for their overseas-born children has had its effective date fixed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and will be announced after final administrative matters are completed. Of about 7,000 pending applications in this category, only a few hundred remain undecided, while 4,121 other citizenship applications are targeted for completion this year.
