Singapore tightens rules on deregistered vehicles as cases triple to 245

Singapore is introducing new measures to control deregistered vehicles after reported cases of them being used on public roads rose from 75 in 2024 to 245 in 2025. A Bill tabled in Parliament on September 8, 2026 creates an Authorised Exporter Scheme, shortens the disposal grace period to 14 days, and allows the Government to block high-risk individuals from registering vehicles. Maximum penalties for keeping or using deregistered vehicles were raised on February 27, 2026 to fines of up to S$20,000 and two years' jail.
