    Semelai Orang Asli villagers around Tasek Bera, Pahang, received Forestry Department notices in June to vacate parts of a forest reserve they have used for over five decades. On Sept 14, enforcement officers tried to enter villages including Kampung Pathir and five residents were arrested. The community is now seeking dialogue with authorities and withdrawal of the notices.

    A 23-year-old Thai man, Faiz Hasan, was found drowned in Sungai Golok along the Malaysia-Thailand border near Kampung Pengkalan Pasir and Abe Yie in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. He was recovered by Thai authorities at 7.10pm after a search and rescue operation that began the previous morning, and the body was handed to Thai authorities.

  6. Lorry driver charged with killing four in LPT crash, hearing held at Temerloh hospital

    A lorry driver, Zulkarnain Md Noh, 52, was charged with killing four people in a crash involving 11 vehicles at KM110.3 of the East Coast Expressway on Aug 31. The charge was read at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Temerloh, where no plea was recorded. The court set Nov 12 for mention.

The Pahang State Health Department said no one was injured and services continue as normal.

    A fire broke out in the ceiling space of the paediatric and women's wards at Jengka Hospital in Maran, Pahang, on Tuesday night. All 17 people in the wards escaped safely and the fire was extinguished by the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department in about 20 minutes. The cause and losses are still under investigation.
