JC3 to hold Journey to Zero 2026 climate finance conference in KL
The Joint Committee on Climate Change will hold its Journey to Zero Conference 2026 at Sasana Kijang in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 28-29. The conference will focus on climate finance, Malaysia's energy transition, adaptation and nature-positive investment. JC3 says the event aims to move Malaysia's climate resilience agenda from policy to implementation.

MSU hosts two-day SDG-ESG symposium at Shah Alam campus
Management and Science University (MSU) and Times Higher Education held the two-day SDG-ESG Synergy Symposium from 3 September at the Performing Arts Theatre on MSU's main campus in Shah Alam. The event brought together leaders and experts from higher education, government and industry to discuss the role of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ESG principles. MSU also reported 950 documented SDG initiatives between 2022 and 2025.

Universiti Malaya researchers turn prawn shells into biodegradable plastic film
Researchers at Universiti Malaya's Faculty of Engineering have converted discarded prawn shells into chitosan, a natural biopolymer, and used it with starch to produce biodegradable plastic films. In soil burial tests, the films began visibly degrading after three weeks and had substantially broken down by the fourth. The work links two Malaysian waste problems - food waste and plastic waste - but the material is still far from commercial use.

Malaysia strengthens eco-friendly drainage management at SWaM 2026 conference
The National Conference on Stormwater Management 2026 (SWaM 2026) is being held over four days at the Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, focusing on building safer, more resilient cities against climate change. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, stressed the importance of consistently implementing existing frameworks like the Urban Stormwater Management Manual (MSMA).
