Abdul Karim: 23 years of KIMF show Sarawak diversity unites, not divides
The Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival (KIMF) 2026 opened at Carpenter Street, Kuching last night, marking its 23rd edition. Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said in a speech delivered by Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan that Sarawak's cultural diversity is a source of unity and a tourism draw. He said the festival belongs to all communities and welcomed the participation of young traders.

Depo Kitchen wins Grab 5-Star Eats 2025 recognition
Depo Kitchen, a Kuching-based food brand in Sarawak, has been recognised in the Grab 5-Star Eats Awards 2025. Founded by Masduqi Husni Thamrin and his wife Dayang Puspasari Abang Spian, the business began under a 10-by-10-foot blue canopy at home before growing into a restaurant serving kunafa, nasi ayam penyet and other dishes.

Kuching mooncake festival opens for 23rd year on Carpenter Street
The 23rd Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival 2026 opened on Carpenter Street in Kuching on Sept 15. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the festival has become part of Kuching's history and helps tourism, entrepreneurship and the creative economy. He said it gives Chinese, Malay, Dayak, Indian and other traders and visitors a space to meet and appreciate one another.

SCALF 2026 in Kuching draws nearly 8,000 visitors
The Sarawak Children's Arts and Literature Festival (SCALF) 2026 at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in Kuching drew nearly 8,000 visitors over two days. It featured over 100 activities across 16 spaces, with 24 agencies and NGOs and 43 volunteers taking part. Storytelling by 12 local and international storytellers was a highlight.

SWCS to hold first Welfare Carnival at Boulevard Mall 2 on Oct 17-18
The Social Welfare Council of Sarawak will hold its inaugural 2026 Welfare Carnival on Oct 17 and 18 at Boulevard Mall 2 in Kuching, themed 'Stronger Minds, Safer Choices'. The event marks the council's 77th anniversary and focuses on mental health awareness, emotional resilience and healthy lifestyles, with substance abuse also addressed. 10,000 cups of Milo to be given out at Malaysia Day celebration in Kuching
A total of 10,000 cups of Milo will be distributed free to visitors at the 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in Sarawak on Sept 16. The initiative is part of Milo's target to give out 100,000 free drinks nationwide during National Month, and the celebration will feature cultural performances and be broadcast live.

Kuching gourmet group, Chef Muluk to publish halal Sarawak recipe book
A Kuching food association and Sarawak chef Abdul Muluk Rambli signed an MoU to produce a Halal Sarawak Cuisine Recipe Book documenting traditional recipes and indigenous ingredients. The signing took place at the association's third anniversary Rainforest Empurau Charity Night in Kuching.

Dr Sim: Chefs representing Kuching abroad must uphold Unesco gastronomy standards
KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said chefs and culinary groups representing Kuching overseas must maintain high standards to protect the city's reputation as a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy. Speaking at the Persatuan Peminat Gourmet Kuching third anniversary Rainforest Empurau Charity Night on Wednesday, he stressed that representation involves heritage, local ingredients, communities, creativity and sustainability.
