Police officer injured after falling off motorcycle while chasing cable theft suspect in Kluang
A police officer was injured after falling off his motorcycle while chasing a red Mitsubishi pickup truck suspected of cable theft in Kluang at about 5.54am today. The suspect fled the scene, and police have urged the public to report any sightings to the nearest police station or the Kluang district police headquarters. The case is being investigated under Section 379 for theft and Section 353 for obstructing a public servant.

Oil waste pollutes Kluang river: thousands of fish and prawns found dead
Oil waste contamination in Sungai Sembrong in Kluang, Johor has killed thousands of fish and freshwater prawns, which were found floating from yesterday evening. A 31-year-old private-sector worker in Kluang, Johor climbed a 2.5-metre overhead gantry on Jalan Haji Manan to remove a damaged height-limit sign dangling dangerously after a storm. Queen visits family of Kluang fire victims, home to be rebuilt
Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah visited the family of the victims of a fire in Taman Titiwangsa, Kluang, Johor, which killed a mother and two of her children last Wednesday. She presented cash and basic necessities through the Raja Zarith Sofiah Johor Foundation and ordered the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation to fully fund repairs and rebuilding of the family's two-storey terrace house.

A man in his 20s was detained by Johor Islamic religious authority officers after allegedly paying RM200 to solicit a foreign prostitute at a four-storey shophouse in Kluang. The 3.05pm raid found two curtained rooms, used and unused condoms, and a local woman in her 30s. The case is being investigated under khalwat and prostitution-related offences.

Man found dead in 1.5m drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn, Butterworth
A man was found dead in a 1.5-metre-deep drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn on Jalan Siakap, Taman Kelisa Emas, Butterworth, today. The Perai Fire and Rescue Station received a call from police at 12.10pm to help lift the body, and the five-member operation ended at 12.47pm. The body was handed to police for further action.

Kluang fire kills army veteran's wife and two sons at Taman Titiwangsa
A fire at a house in Taman Titiwangsa, Kluang, killed a 49-year-old woman and her two sons, aged 18 and 11, on Tuesday night. The father, an army veteran, escaped after trying to put out the blaze and said the brothers were found embracing. The remains are to be buried at the Kampung Bentong Dalam Muslim Cemetery.

Kluang hospital short of staff as beds and specialist services grow
Enche' Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Kluang is facing a manpower shortage as its bed capacity and specialist services expand to serve more than 330,000 residents. Johor health committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the hospital has 396 beds, with 38 more expected once Ward 10B upgrading is completed by end-September, and that Johor will raise the staffing shortfall with the health ministry.

Three dead including a child in Kluang terrace house fire
Three people, including a young boy, died after being trapped in a fire that gutted a two-storey terrace house in Taman Titiwangsa, Kluang, last night. The Kluang fire station received the emergency call at 10.44pm and sent 14 personnel to the scene. The house was about 50 per cent destroyed and the victims have not yet been identified.

Woman dies in accident on way home from work
A 42-year-old woman died after her car crashed into a tree on the Batu Pahat-Mersing road in Johor. She was driving from Kluang towards Kahang when the accident happened around noon. Firefighters from the Renggam station extracted her from the wreckage, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
