In Johor Bahru, former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi claimed Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants the 16th general election held soon because he is eager to become prime minister. He said Umno believes it is at peak strength and can form a government on its own, and alleged there was a difference of views between Zahid and deputy president Mohamad Hasan at the 2026 party assembly.

Couple killed in Kota Tinggi crash had told family to travel separately
A couple died when their Perodua Axia collided with a Honda BR-V at Km31.2 of the Kota Tinggi-Kluang road in Johor. Relatives said the couple had insisted other family members ride in a different vehicle before the crash, which also killed a 58-year-old passenger in the other car. The two will be buried together at the Kampung Tanjung Buai Muslim cemetery.

Couple and third driver killed in crash on Kota Tinggi-Kluang road
A husband and wife died after the Perodua Axia they were in collided with a Honda BRV at Kilometre 31.2 of the Kota Tinggi-Kluang road in Johor. The BRV's passenger, Mohd Noor Selamat, 58, was also killed. The couple were buried in a single grave at the Kampung Tanjung Buai Islamic cemetery in Kota Tinggi.

Woman who set fire to Sembawang HDB doorway after breakup jailed five to six months
A 46-year-old woman set fire to the doorway of a 10th-floor HDB unit in Sembawang on June 30 after hallucinating that she was trapped following a breakup with her boyfriend. The fire damaged her ex-boyfriend's unit and a neighbour's windows, forced about 30 residents to evacuate, and caused over $10,000 in repairs. She pleaded guilty to intentional arson and was sentenced to five to six months' imprisonment.

Woman sues Sheng Siong over trolley of rice bags hitting her foot
A woman who was shopping at a Sheng Siong supermarket says an employee pushed a trolley loaded with rice bags into her left foot and back, leaving bruises, swelling and heel injuries. She is seeking about S$11,000 in medical and transport costs, but the supermarket denies negligence and says she walked into the cart. The case is being heard in the State Courts.

Police: bomb threat at Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru was a hoax
Johor police have confirmed that a bomb threat emailed against a business premises at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru was false. Bomb disposal units swept the interior and exterior, examined several suspicious objects and found no explosive material, declaring the area safe. Police also recalled a similar hoax email in July about Centrepoint South Tower at Mid Valley City in Kuala Lumpur.

A car self-skidded along Marsiling Road towards Marsiling Drive in the early hours of Sep. 11. The driver left before police arrived, and efforts to trace the driver are ongoing.

Rider without helmet rams traffic cop, breaking his right hand
A motorcyclist without a helmet rammed a traffic policeman during an Op Motosikal operation in Kota Tinggi at 10.03am. The officer suffered a broken right hand and was taken to Hospital Kota Tinggi, while the 24-year-old local suspect was arrested at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 and Section 322 of the Penal Code.

Pasir Ris bedroom fire: two taken to hospital, 20 evacuated
A fire broke out in the bedroom of an eighth-floor HDB flat at Block 722 Pasir Ris Street 72 on the morning of Sept 13. Two people were taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation and about 20 residents were evacuated as a precaution. SCDF said preliminary findings point to an electrical origin and reminded the public about safe use of electrical appliances.

16th Sukan Harmoni draws 500 participants at Our Tampines Hub
About 500 participants joined the 16th Sukan Harmoni at Our Tampines Hub on 13 September, a cross-religious sports event organised by MUIS and the Taoist Federation of Singapore. Participants competed in badminton and basketball while meeting players from different backgrounds. The event was attended by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo and MUIS chief executive Kadir Maideen.

16th Harmony Sports at Our Tampines Hub draws 500 participants
Singapore's Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) and the Taoist Federation of Singapore held the 16th Harmony Sports event at Our Tampines Hub on 13 September, drawing about 500 participants. Themed 'United in Motion', it featured badminton, basketball, esports, taiji and brisk walking to build cross-religious understanding. Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong joined a 7.5-kilometre community walk around Ang Mo Kio and Hougang on 13 September, covering 14 Residents' Network centres. He said the government will keep helping residents cope with difficulties in an uncertain world. Over 1,000 residents attended the main Ci Yuan Day event at Ci Yuan Community Club, where 79 children received $50 in toy money under the Bag-to-School programme.

The sixth Shaping Hearts inclusive arts festival launched at Punggol Digital District on Sept 13, with artists with disabilities co-creating four sensory playgrounds for visitors. Over 200 artworks shown at Shaping Hearts 2026 in Punggol
Shaping Hearts 2026, an annual inclusive arts event by North East CDC, is displaying over 200 works by artists with disabilities at Punggol Digital District from 12 to 27 September. Among them is a strawberry artwork by Syarifah Alawiyah Alaydrus Syed Abdul Kadir, 8, a CPAS student with osteogenesis imperfecta. The sixth edition features four interactive playgrounds themed Texture, Movement, Rhythm and Visual.

Johor coconut sellers see smaller hot-weather sales boost as Singapore supply grows
Fruit sellers in Johor Bahru say hot weather has lifted coconut sales, but the increase is far smaller than in past years because coconuts are now more readily available in Singapore. One seller, Tie Kian, says he now moves about 100 coconuts a day, down from 200 to 400 during hot spells six or seven years ago, as Singaporean customers no longer need to cross the border.

Mujahid ready to assist MACC probe into Tabung Haji RCI findings
Mujahid Yusof Rawa said he is ready to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's investigation into the Tabung Haji RCI findings, but has yet to receive any official notice. He said nearly half of the 14 cases referred for action were already known when he led the ministry in 2018. The #Stand4RCITH information programme was held in Johor Baru to explain the RCI findings to the public.

Amanah rejects UMNO's push for early polls, wants full term served

Kulai police shoot at Myvi tyres after couple ram officers

A Singaporean woman claims she was inappropriately touched by a masseur during a 90-minute massage at a spa in Johor Bahru on June 27, 2026. The masseur allegedly made inappropriate remarks, asked personal questions, and requested to exchange contact details on WeChat.
