MAIS targets all Selangor mosques to adopt AI and digitalisation
The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) aims for all mosques in the state to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation in their management, up from about 30 per cent currently. MAIS secretary Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said digital financial systems and management courses will be expanded by district, with AI also used in MAIS's daily operations. He spoke at the 12th International Conference on Mosque, Zakat and Waqf Management (IMAF) in Bangi.

Police: No criminal element in death of 15-year-old girl who fell from Putrajaya apartment
Putrajaya police confirmed there is no criminal element in the death of a 15-year-old girl who fell from an apartment building in Presint 5, Putrajaya last Saturday. The case has been classified as sudden death, and the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by a Hospital Putrajaya medical officer.

Keretapi Sarong 2026 in Johor Bahru draws over 500 participants
Over 500 participants in traditional attire joined the Keretapi Sarong Johor Bahru 2026 on Malaysia Day, travelling from Kulai KTM Station to JB Sentral before a parade into the city centre. Johor's Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Pannir Selvam flagged off the group at the MBJB building. The event is expected to draw about 5,000 visitors with cultural performances and community activities.

CJ: Syed Ahmad Idid's pension is PSD's call, not judiciary's
In Putrajaya, Chief Justice Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh said the pension issue of former High Court judge Datuk Syed Ahmad Idid Syed Abdullah falls under the Public Service Department, not the judiciary. Syed Ahmad Idid has said he was forced to resign in 1996 after writing a letter alleging corruption in the judiciary, which cost him his pension.

Four children who drowned in Kulim buried in a single grave
Four children who drowned after falling into a drain at Taman Desa Kayangan, Sungai Karangan, Kulim, were buried in one grave at the Masjid Jamek Nurul Ehsan Islamic cemetery today. Two died at the scene and two on the way to Kulim Hospital.

Tour bus catches fire at KM137 of North-South Expressway near Yong Peng, all 15 escape
A tour bus carrying 14 passengers and a driver caught fire at KM137 of the northbound North-South Expressway near Yong Peng, Batu Pahat. All 15 people escaped unhurt after the driver and tour leader evacuated them before firefighters arrived. The bus was about 80 per cent destroyed and the blaze was put out at 2.48pm.

MIAPEX 2026 in Seri Kembangan targets RM12 million in sales
The Malaysia International Automotive & Parts Expo (MIAPEX) 2026 will run from 23 to 25 October at MIECC, The Mines, Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Late Chief Justice Abdul Hamid remembered at Palace of Justice reference proceedings
Reference proceedings were held at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya to honour the late Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad, a former Chief Justice of Malaysia. His daughter Melati Abdul Hamid recalled his refusal to be lobbied, his 'BUAT KERJA' banners at the Palace of Justice, and his years of writing after retirement. At reference proceedings at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, Chief Justice Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh said the judiciary's standing comes from the character and conduct of judges, not from imposing buildings. The event honoured four former senior judges: Tun Mohd Eusoff Chin, Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad and Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob.

Four children who fell into Kulim drain buried in single grave
Four children who fell into a drain at Taman Desa Kayangan, Sungai Karangan, Kulim last night have completed post-mortems at the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar. Their bodies will be taken back to Kulim for burial in a single grave at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam Masjid Sungai Karangan today. The incident happened when they tried to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the drain.

BIM saved RM157m and 10 years on Pan Borneo Sarawak, Works Ministry says
The Works Ministry said Building Information Modelling resolved over 3,000 drawing errors on the Pan Borneo Sarawak Highway in 2016, saving RM157 million and avoiding a potential 10-year delay. Speaking at Malaysia BIM Day 2026 at the Putrajaya Corporation Complex, officials said RM83.3 million is funding 16 new BIM Labs at PWD offices nationwide, with AI to be added to the approval process.

Three held over attempted cable theft at Jalan Reko, Kajang
Police arrested three men, aged 25 to 46, over an attempted cable theft near a traffic light junction along Jalan Reko in Kajang at about 4am today. Two suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and all three will be brought to the Kajang Court tomorrow for a remand application.

Former minister Jamil Khir charged over RM860.3m Tabung Haji assets
In Kuala Lumpur, former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom was charged in the Sessions Court with three counts of dishonestly transferring over RM860.3 million in Tabung Haji assets. The 65-year-old pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. The judge set bail at RM300,000 and postponed the case to November 5.

KPPA: Stop repeated errors in public sector human resource management
Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Dr Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz called for an end to repeated errors in public sector human resource management by addressing root causes. He said this at the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today. JPA has carried out 61 consultation programmes since 2024.

MIROS proposes regular health checks for elderly drivers
MIROS chairman Prof Dr Wong Shaw Voon suggested regular health screenings for drivers from age 40 as a condition for renewing licences. He said driving competence cannot be judged by age alone, and an age limit could create social risks for elderly drivers who remain fit. The proposal was made at MIROS headquarters in Kajang, while a driving institute operator in Segambut suggested practical training beyond 16 hours for elderly drivers.

1,500 join World Orangutan Day Fun Walk at Putrajaya Botanical Garden
More than 1,500 participants took part in the World Orangutan Day 2026 celebration at Taman Botani Putrajaya, organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Green Conservation Foundation (MPOGCF) and launched by Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad. Proton donates RM200,000 worth of drones for Nepal flood relief mission
Proton has contributed drones valued at nearly RM200,000 to the Government of Nepal to support disaster response after recent floods. The equipment was handed over to Nadma at the SMART headquarters in Pulau Meranti for transport to Nepal, where SMART will train local agency staff.
