GPM: Nepal flood victims need blankets, warm clothing before October winter
Global Peace Mission Malaysia is calling for urgent aid for flood victims in Nuwakot, Nepal, who face the October winter without blankets, warm clothing and cooking equipment. Its team, on the ground from 11 to 14 September, reported a river widening from 30 metres to about 130 metres. Fifty-five Malaysians remain uncontactable, and the SMART search operation is now recovery only.

Families of 55 missing Malaysians question Nepal search timing
Families of 55 Malaysians still unaccounted for after the Aug 26 Nepal-Tibet border disaster are questioning the timing and strategy of the SMART search operation, 20 days on. A spokesman for 49 of the families says three areas with last-known-location evidence appear unsearched, and they want access to the National Security Council mechanism and a meeting with the Prime Minister.

JBPM to look after welfare of two officers missing in Nepal floods
The Fire and Rescue Department will ensure the welfare of two officers still uncontactable after flash floods in Rasuwa, Nepal last month, including salary and pension matters. Its director-general said the department has consulted the Public Service Department on the two men, one of whom was due to retire on Sept 23. The two were among 10 Malaysians who left for Nepal on Aug 24 to trek to Everest Base Camp; 55 Malaysians remain uncontactable after the Nepal and China floods.

Family of Malaysian missing in Nepal floods seeks details of SAR effort
The family of N Kalaiselvi, a Malaysian reported missing in the Nepal floods, has asked authorities to share detailed information on the areas searched before the SMART rescue team is withdrawn. Kalaiselvi, 65, was among 27 Malaysians heading to Mount Kailash in Tibet when contact was lost after the disaster in Rasuwa district. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said the SMART team is expected home on Saturday or Sunday, but Nepal has not officially ended its search as about 5,000 people remain unaccounted for.

Nepal floods separate over 500 children from their families
Floods that struck the Nepal-China border on Aug 26 have separated more than 500 children from their parents, according to an initial assessment by NGO Save the Children. Nepal's disaster agency reported 1,385 bodies recovered and 5,130 people still missing, while the government pledged a US$6.5 million scholarship fund for affected students.

Wife of missing firefighter in Nepal asks Malaysians to pray
Hani Othman, wife of firefighter Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa who went missing in floods in Rasuwa, Nepal, has asked Malaysians to keep praying for the SMART rescue operation. She is on her 13th day in Nepal and has yet to receive updates from Wisma Putra. Fifty-five Malaysians remain uncontactable while 77 who were found safe have been brought to Kathmandu.

Singapore aid package lands in Kathmandu as DVI team hunts for nine missing Singaporeans
Singapore's S$560,000 humanitarian aid package arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sept 10 to help Nepal after the Aug 26 flash floods that killed almost 1,400 people. The package includes medical supplies, DNA test kits and protective equipment, and a Singapore Police Force disaster victim identification team is helping Nepali authorities identify victims, including nine missing Singaporeans.
