The 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Exhibition has been expanded to digital platforms and social media accounts under the Communications Ministry, with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil officiating at Plaza Merdeka in Kuching on Sept 14. Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition opens at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching
A national-level Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition themed 'Koridor Zaman Pembentukan Malaysia' was launched at the Atrium Utama, Plaza Merdeka in Kuching today. The exhibition, running until Sept 16, traces Malaysia's formation through 20 tunnel panels and five segments, with mini versions in 10 Sarawak divisions, Sabah and Putrajaya. The main Hari Malaysia celebration will be held on Sept 16 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

NBX launched in Kuching to support Sarawak Health Metropolis ecosystem
Northbank Business Exchange (NBX) was launched in Kuching as part of the Sarawak Health Metropolis development ecosystem. Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said urban development must cover housing, business, education and healthcare, not housing alone. He described NBX as an example of the private sector complementing the Sarawak government's plans.

Five teens in Kuching admit gang robbery, sent to Henry Gurney School
The Sessions Court in Kuching on Monday ordered five male teenagers to be placed at Henry Gurney School in Puncak Borneo after they pleaded guilty to gang robbery. The robbery took place at a convenience store along Jalan Tun Jugah at about 4am on June 1, where a 19-year-old worker was threatened with a machete and wooden sticks and about RM1,000 in cash and cigarettes were taken. Two 18-year-olds will be held until they turn 21, while the three younger accused, aged 14 and 15, were each ordered to spend three years at the juvenile rehabilitation facility.

Sarawak police chief tells journalists to approach OCPDs for case details
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said journalists in the state may contact district police chiefs to get information or clarification on police cases. Mourners bid farewell to nurse Debra Moset at Kampung Semadang funeral
Hundreds gathered at St Patrick's Chapel in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, on Monday to pay last respects to Flying Doctor Service nurse Debra Moset, 40, one of five killed in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang last week. Her niece Lizfornia Derik delivered a eulogy calling her a dedicated nurse who served others until the end of her life. Debra leaves behind her husband and two children.

SNCC Samarahan first phase set for May 2028 completion, RM30m approved
The first phase of the Special Needs Community Centre (SNCC) in Samarahan, Sarawak is expected to be completed by May 2028, with RM30 million approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan. State minister Fatimah Abdullah said the centre will provide lifelong support including early intervention, vocational training and residential care. She also announced 745 children received early intervention services statewide as of Dec 31, 2025, and Sarawak aims to establish nine more One Stop Early Intervention Centres by 2030.

Husband recalls Singapore holiday before Debra Moset died in Long Lellang helicopter crash
The husband of nurse Debra Moset, killed in the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang, spoke before her funeral in Kota Padawan on Monday. John Then Hua said the couple had taken a holiday in Singapore a week before the crash, and that she had been looking forward to moving into their new home in Kampung Semadang. Five others died in the crash, including the pilot and a medical officer.

Two children weep as mother Debra Moset is buried after Ulu Baram helicopter crash
Debra Moset, 40, was buried at St Patrick Christian Cemetery in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, today. Her children Euodia Then Suling, 15, and Eugene Then Kuling, 12, wept as they followed the funeral. Debra was among five killed when a Health Ministry air doctor helicopter crashed near Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, last Tuesday.

59 Indonesians detained in Ops Sapu raids around Kuching
Malaysian Immigration in Sarawak detained 59 Indonesian nationals in Ops Sapu at three locations around Kuching city from 12 September to yesterday. A total of 92 individuals were screened, with those held suspected of various immigration offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63. All detainees were taken for further action.

Road repair at Kampung Grait-Git collapse to start this week

Nurse's remains return home; daughter vows to become a doctor
The remains of nurse Debra Moset arrived at her family home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan on Sept 13. Her 15-year-old daughter Euodia Then Suling said she now wants to be a doctor after seeing her mother help others. Her 12-year-old brother Eugene Then Kuling recalled sending their mother to the airport on Sept 3 before she left for Miri.

Lorry falls into drain at Jalan Mendu after unauthorised structure collapses, MBKS reminds owners to get approval
A seven-tonne lorry fell into a drain at Jalan Mendu in Kuching on Friday morning when an unauthorised structure covering the drain collapsed under its weight. Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who inspected the site, reminded property owners to obtain approval before building structures over public drains, citing Section 136 of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. The driver was not injured.
