Veteran broadcaster in Kuching gets Kasih@HAWANA X TM aid on Malaysia Day
Uleyvia Ubang, a 58-year-old veteran broadcaster with 30 years at Cats FM who has chronic kidney disease, received a contribution from the Kasih@HAWANA X TM Fund at her home in Kuching on Malaysia Day. The fund, backed by Telekom Malaysia's CSR and run by the Communications Ministry through Bernama, has aided 77 media practitioners since June 2026 and 847 since 2023.

Sarawak to widen JKKN arts collaboration into schools
The Sarawak government is looking to expand its collaboration with the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), including through arts and cultural programmes involving schools. Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this after a courtesy visit by JKKN director-general Mohd Amran Mohd Haris to his ministry at Bangunan Baitul Makmur II in Kuching on Tuesday. The visit also saw JKKN Sarawak hand over a Mobile Stage Truck to the Sarawak Arts Council.

Hari Malaysia special book returns to Sarawak, signed tonight at BCCK
The Hari Malaysia Special Book is back in Sarawak for this year's celebration, with a signing ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor will officiate. The book, kept by the Sabah State Archives Department, has symbolised the unity of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak since 2010.

Ops Lintas Batas 2026 strengthens wildlife protection at Sarawak-Kalimantan border
Sarawak Forestry Corporation and 18 Malaysian and Indonesian agencies ran Ops Lintas Batas 2026 from 10 to 15 September in the Aruk-Biawak area and along the Malaysia-Indonesia border. A total of 98 personnel took part in joint patrols, checkpoints and intelligence sharing to curb wildlife smuggling. A 1000 Site Visit programme also engaged border communities on conservation awareness.

Awang Tengah: Sarawak must build forest technology expertise
Sarawak Deputy Premier Awang Tengah Ali Hasan called for local expertise in technology and forest management to be built through partnerships with research institutions, universities and industry. He spoke at the Sarawak Forest Department's Excellent Service Award and Retirees Appreciation Ceremony in Kuching, where 93 officers received awards and 53 retiring officers were honoured.

Kuching mooncake festival opens for 23rd year on Carpenter Street
The 23rd Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival 2026 opened on Carpenter Street in Kuching on Sept 15. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the festival has become part of Kuching's history and helps tourism, entrepreneurship and the creative economy. He said it gives Chinese, Malay, Dayak, Indian and other traders and visitors a space to meet and appreciate one another.

5,000 expected at Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at BCCK Kuching
The national Malaysia Day 2026 celebration is being held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight, with about 5,000 attendees expected. Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are the guests of honour, while Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor are also scheduled to attend. The event begins at 7pm with pre-show segments, followed by the Prime Minister's speech and the signing of the special Malaysia Day book.

Sarawak targets full ePASS rollout to replace paper timber transfer passes by June 2027
Sarawak aims to fully enforce the Electronic Transfer Pass (ePASS) statewide by June 2027, replacing paper-based timber transfer passes with a traceable digital format. The system, developed under the Sarawak Timber and Forest Revenue Tracking System (REVLOG), was launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Kuching and will roll out in three phases starting January 2027 in Kapit, Sibu and Sarikei.

Sarawak Forest Dept sets MBOR record with 31,260 saplings at Sabal reserve
Sarawak's Forest Department has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records after planting 31,260 saplings of 82 native IUCN Red List species at Sabal Forest Reserve within a year. Director Hamden Mohammad said the department also won the ASEAN Green Initiative award in Manila and a DBKU landscaping gold.

Fahmi: Sarawak electoral boundary review already under way, no date set
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the electoral boundary review process has already begun but gave no commitment on completing it before Sarawak's next election. He spoke to reporters in Kuching after visiting a Borneo Post photographer whose Kampung Tabuan Dayak home was damaged by an Aug 25 storm. The Election Commission says the review is at the fourth of 16 constitutional stages, with public display of draft boundaries open until Sept 30.

A thanksgiving ceremony for Sarawak's Malaysia Day 2026 celebration was held at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak in Kuching tonight. Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg joined about a thousand worshippers. The programme included Maghrib prayers, Yasin recitation, zikir and a thanksgiving prayer.

JKKN Sarawak handed over a mobile stage lorry to the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) at a ceremony in Kuching on Tuesday. Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said cooperation between the state and federal governments in arts and culture will continue to be strengthened, including programmes such as the Gendang Festival held during Sarawak Regatta.

Sarawak targets its own CubeSat satellite in orbit by 2030
Sarawak aims to launch a state-owned CubeSat satellite into low earth orbit by 2030 to obtain data from space. Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said the data will feed a data centre in Sarawak to shape the state's economic and development strategy. Sarawak targets local chips for satellites and Mars mission
Sarawak aims to use chips designed by local talent and fabricated in the state for space technology, including low-earth-orbit satellites by 2030 and an engine for a Mars mission. Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is part of efforts to master the semiconductor value chain, with the engineering team targeted to grow to 500 from about 40. Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called for religious sensitivities to be respected after an UMNO leader's remark involving Catholic clergy and Christian scripture. A Borneo Post photographer in Kuching whose house was damaged by a storm on Aug 25 is among 845 recipients of Tabung Kasih@Hawana, which has disbursed RM729,300 since 2023. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil visited the house in Kampung Tabuan Dayak and said Sarawak has received RM172,000 for 58 media practitioners.

Lavinia Kho wins Under-21 Masters at Sarawak International Open
Lavinia Kho Jia Jie of Sarawak won the Under-21 Masters title and finished runner-up in the Under-20 to 22 women's division at the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships 2026. The week-long tournament at Megalanes Sarawak in Batu Kawa drew 663 participants across 13 events.

Man jailed seven months for smashing mother's belongings in Kuching
A 28-year-old man was sentenced to seven months in jail by the Magistrates' Court in Kuching after pleading guilty to damaging his mother's household items. Mohammad Fitri Abdullah destroyed a dustbin, flower pots, a small table and a table fan at a house near Jalan Batu Kawa on Sept 10, causing about RM250 in damage.

Man gets 20 months' jail for breaking into Kuching second-hand shop
A 45-year-old man was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment by the Magistrates' Court in Kuching after pleading guilty to breaking into a second-hand shop near Jalan Rock on Aug 2. Items including power drills, amplifiers and parang were reported missing, and police traced him through CCTV footage.

Dapsy Sarawak lodges police report over Umno man's Catholic joke
DAP Socialist Youth Sarawak filed a police report at the Sekama police station in Kuching over remarks by Umno Sepang chief Datuk Noorazli Said about a Catholic priest and nun at the 2026 Umno General Assembly. The youth wing said the sexually suggestive joke, later linked to Psalm 129, trivialised religion and was especially sensitive in Sarawak, where many residents are Christian. It urged police to investigate professionally and impartially.
