Box with toy blocks destroyed by bomb squad in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling
A suspicious plastic box found in front of a shoplot in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, was destroyed by a police bomb disposal unit on Monday afternoon. Bandar Utama school stabbing: 15-year-old boy freed after mental disorder defence
A 15-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Bandar Utama last year has been acquitted of murder by the Shah Alam High Court on grounds of mental disorder. Universiti Malaya researchers turn prawn shells into biodegradable plastic film
Researchers at Universiti Malaya's Faculty of Engineering have converted discarded prawn shells into chitosan, a natural biopolymer, and used it with starch to produce biodegradable plastic films. In soil burial tests, the films began visibly degrading after three weeks and had substantially broken down by the fourth. The work links two Malaysian waste problems - food waste and plastic waste - but the material is still far from commercial use.
