Siow: Asean Power Grid needs regulatory fixes and subsea cable plan within two years
The Straits Times
Singapore's Second Minister for Finance Jeffrey Siow said on Sept 10 that Asean must resolve regulatory hurdles and finalise a subsea cable blueprint within two years to advance the Asean Power Grid. Speaking at the Unlocking Capital for Sustainability summit at Suntec Singapore, he noted that differing domestic rules, export licence durations and unclear cable maintenance norms are blocking cross-border electricity trade. The grid, targeted for 2045, is key to Singapore's net zero goal and has faced obstacles in Batam solar and Laos hydropower exports.
