Fomca urges e-commerce bill to hold platforms liable for online drug sales
Fomca and the Malaysian Cyber Consumers Association are pressing the government to speed up a comprehensive E-Commerce Act that clearly assigns responsibility to online sales platforms for blocking drug and banned product sales. Fomca CEO T Saravanan said platforms cannot hide behind passive-intermediary status when they provide access, algorithms and transaction systems. The call follows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's concern over online drug sales including fentanyl, which led MCMC to be directed to meet e-commerce platforms.
