Report: Social media now Malaysians' main news source
The 2026 Digital News Report by the Reuters Institute shows social media overtaking television and news websites as the most widely used news source across 48 markets. In Malaysia, nearly seven in 10 respondents used social media for news, while news website and television use fell. WhatsApp overtook Facebook as the top news platform, and TikTok surged to 45 per cent.
