Two women die of electric shock at Besut fish pond, TNB denies its equipment involved
Two women aged 49 and 27 were found unconscious at a fish-rearing pond in Pantai Air Tawar, Kuala Besut, Terengganu, yesterday and confirmed dead, believed to be from electric shock. TNB said its equipment was not involved and will cooperate with authorities in the investigation.

14 Penang students get PTPTN RM1,500 advance to start university
Fourteen students from Pokok Tampang, Taman Sepadu and Kubang Menerong in Penang received RM1,500 PTPTN Loan Advance Payment letters from PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim. Another 20 students received the aid at a separate event in George Town. The advance is meant to cover tuition and initial expenses before they begin studies at public universities and polytechnics.

KPKT channels RM6.427 million for environmental health campaign in 635 local authority areas
Malaysia's Housing and Local Government Ministry is allocating RM6.427 million for its Environmental Health Campaign across 635 local authority areas nationwide from 2021 to 2026. Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said the funds will upgrade public amenities and raise community hygiene standards. She spoke at the National World Environmental Health Day 2026 celebration and the closing of the 2026 Local Authorities Convention in Kepala Batas.

Farmers, fishermen and breeders in Sungai Petani share their contribution to national food supply
In Kampung Permatang Berangan, Sungai Petani, a padi farmer harvests about 13.6 tonnes of padi each season, another sells ulam to nearby shops and a fisherman catches about 3.5 kilogrammes of prawns a day. All three contribute to the country's food supply.

DBKU awarded five-star environmental health rating
Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) received a five-star rating under the Local Government Department's Technical Audit Star Rating Programme 2026 for its environmental health services. The award was presented at the 2026 World Environmental Health Day celebration at Bertam Resort, Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang. DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman accepted the recognition, which covers urban cleanliness, food safety, pollution control and waste management.

Grave of Kedah war commander Tunku Mat Saad found in Jalan Perak
History activists have located the grave of Kedah war commander Tunku Muhamad Saad, known as Tunku Mat Saad, who died in 1847, at the Muslim cemetery of Masjid Jamek Hashim Yahaya in Jalan Perak, Penang. He led Kedah's attack on Siamese forces at Kota Kuala Kedah in 1838 and was later exiled to India before settling in Kota Perai and Penang.

Penang records RM17.3bil manufacturing investment, highest in the country
Penang recorded RM17.3 billion in approved manufacturing investment in the first half of this year, the highest in Malaysia and up 38 per cent from a year earlier. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state accounted for 34 per cent of the national manufacturing total, speaking at the 2026 Local Authorities Convention in Bertam.

Contract worker pleads guilty to snatching RM10,000 gold chain in Arau
A contract worker pleaded guilty at the Kangar Magistrate's Court to robbing and injuring an elderly woman while snatching a gold chain worth RM10,000 at a house in Bumbung Lima, Arau on 5 September. Wan Afandi Wan Salehudin, 26, was granted RM6,000 bail with one surety, and sentencing is set for 23 September.

Two motorcyclists hurt in separate crashes in Balik Pulau and Kepala Batas
Two motorcyclists were injured in separate road accidents in Penang on the same day. The first occurred near SK Titi Teras in Balik Pulau, and the second in Lorong Haji Hassan 2, Kepala Batas. Both victims were rescued by firefighters and taken to hospitals.

Two men arrested for snatching elderly woman's necklace in Arau
Police arrested two men suspected of snatching an RM10,000 necklace from an 83-year-old woman in Bumbung Lima, Arau. The suspects, aged 25 and 26, were detained in Kampung Guar Gajah and tested positive for methamphetamine.
