A doctor has shared how nine years ago she manually ventilated a critically ill baby with an Ambu bag for two hours on a helicopter flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching after being awake for more than 24 hours. She said the memory has taken on new meaning after a recent helicopter crash that killed fellow healthcare workers.

SGH Kuching gives East Malaysia's first targeted prostate cancer therapy
Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching administered East Malaysia's first targeted radionuclide therapy for advanced prostate cancer on Aug 27, using Lu-177 PSMA-617. The hospital says the treatment saves patients in Sarawak and the wider region from flying to Peninsular Malaysia for advanced cancer care.

SIDC targets Q3 2027 launch, aims to be regional pandemic preparedness hub
The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) is targeting an official launch of its facility in the third quarter of 2027, according to CEO Prof Dr Ivan Yap Kok Seng. He spoke at the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 at Imperial Hotel, Kuching, launched by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Five strategic cooperation documents were signed, including with Institut Pasteur du Cambodge and BIOTEC Thailand for infectious disease research and regional pandemic preparedness.

First Women's Care Room for nurses launched at Sarawak General Hospital
The National Welfare Foundation (YKN) launched its first Women's Care Room at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) in Kuching. The facility provides a comfortable rest area for female nurses, especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, officiated the facility, which is sponsored by Perinsuran Brokar Sdn. Bhd.
