Man arrested for injuring girlfriend with parang and pallet wood in Kabong oil palm estate
A 50-year-old man was arrested in Saratok after allegedly injuring his girlfriend with pallet wood and brandishing a parang at an oil palm estate in Kampung Nyabor, Kabong, last Thursday. The 35-year-old victim suffered injuries to her finger, hand and body after rejecting the suspect's marriage proposal. The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and the case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code.

Sarawak targets 9 new OSEIC centres by 2030, RM30m for special needs centre in Samarahan
Sarawak plans to set up nine more One-Stop Early Intervention Centres (OSEIC) by 2030 to expand early intervention services for children with special needs. The state government has also approved RM30 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan for the first phase of the Sarawak Special Needs Community Centre in Samarahan, expected to be completed by May 2028. As of 31 December 2025, 745 children have received OSEIC services.

SNCC Samarahan first phase set for May 2028 completion, RM30m approved
The first phase of the Special Needs Community Centre (SNCC) in Samarahan, Sarawak is expected to be completed by May 2028, with RM30 million approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan. State minister Fatimah Abdullah said the centre will provide lifelong support including early intervention, vocational training and residential care. She also announced 745 children received early intervention services statewide as of Dec 31, 2025, and Sarawak aims to establish nine more One Stop Early Intervention Centres by 2030.

Pickleball tournament in Mukah's Tellian targets 32 doubles pairs
SABERKAS Tellian branch will hold its 2026 KASUS pickleball tournament on 19 September at the Petanak Open Pickleball Court in Mukah. The men's doubles event targets 32 pairs with a RM100 entry fee per pair and registration closing on 18 September. The champion takes home RM1,000 and a trophy.

Windstorm damages roofs of three longhouses in Bawang Assan
A strong windstorm and heavy rain hit longhouses in Nanga Tutus, Bawang Assan, this morning, damaging roofs and facilities and affecting nine households. Building materials for roof repairs were provided to the families after Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh visited the site to assess the damage.

78-year-old man missing in Selangau durian orchard found safe
A 78-year-old man reported missing after going to a durian orchard near Sungai Duat Bridge in Selangau, Sarawak was found safe today. Kaya Umbie left home around 8am yesterday and did not return, prompting his family to lodge a police report. Fire and Rescue personnel from Selangau who launched a search operation found he had been located by longhouse residents and taken to Selangau Clinic for a health check.

580kg crocodile caught in Batang Igan after disturbing fishing nets
A 580kg crocodile measuring 4.32 metres was captured in the Sebedil area of Batang Igan, Sarawak, early Thursday morning. The operation was launched after residents complained the reptile had been disturbing their fishing nets. A licensed hunter and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation took part in the joint operation.

Annuar: PISA results a wake-up call for Maths, Science in Sarawak

Rundi: Drugs and online gambling threaten rural families
Sarawak's Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, warned that drug abuse and online gambling are seriously affecting families in rural areas. He said pills are being sold to longhouse residents and online gambling is trapping people in debt. Longhouses that never applied for MRP funds in Kemena to be identified
In Bintulu, Sarawak minister Stephen Rundi Utom said longhouses that have never applied for Rural Minor Project (MRP) funds will be identified so they too can receive government aid. At a cheque handover at the Bintulu Agriculture Department office, 89 recipients received RM1.23 million in MRP allocations. He also said longhouse meetings must be held at least four times a year with minutes sent to the District Officer.

Foreign oil palm worker arrested in Mukah with drugs hidden in cigarette box
A 35-year-old foreign oil palm plantation worker was arrested in a raid along Jalan Mukah-Selangau in Mukah after police found drugs hidden in a cigarette box. Police seized 10.83 grams of methamphetamine valued at RM540, and the suspect tested positive for drugs.
