    A 30-year-old Indonesian ship crew member, Hafiludin, was sentenced to eight weeks' jail in Singapore on Thursday after he was caught bringing a 550g elephant ivory tusk into the country. He had hidden the tusk in a thermos flask and was stopped during an X-ray screening at the Keppel Entrance Crew office on Aug 9. He had bought the tusk from a merchant in Lagos, Nigeria, for US$150 and lacked the required permits.

    A 30-year-old Chinese national pleaded guilty on Wednesday to breaking into her ex-boyfriend's mansion on Swettenham Road and attempting to grab a police officer's gun to harm herself. She had also allegedly broken into the same home in September 2024. Sentencing is set for September 15.
