Fahmi Hands Malaysia Day Invitation to Sarawak Governor
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil made a courtesy call on Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri Sarawak in Kuching to present an official invitation to the Malaysia Day celebration. The event will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tomorrow night, with about 5,000 people expected, including the Prime Minister and the Sarawak Premier.

Sadong Jaya Heritage Square design wins international design award
The design of the Dataran Warisan at Waterfront Sadong Jaya has won an international design award and will be recognised on 1 October at Bangunan UNIFOR. Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the project is among five iconic tourism development plans for Sadong Jaya due to start next year.

Five RM31m tourism projects in Sadong Jaya discussed
Five tourism development projects worth RM31 million in Sadong Jaya, Sarawak, were discussed at an IRSDA committee meeting. Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said the projects include a waterfront, community bazaar and heritage square, and are now at the design and approval stage.

Man gets 20 months' jail for breaking into Kuching second-hand shop
A 45-year-old man was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment by the Magistrates' Court in Kuching after pleading guilty to breaking into a second-hand shop near Jalan Rock on Aug 2. Items including power drills, amplifiers and parang were reported missing, and police traced him through CCTV footage.

Dapsy Sarawak lodges police report over Umno man's Catholic joke
DAP Socialist Youth Sarawak filed a police report at the Sekama police station in Kuching over remarks by Umno Sepang chief Datuk Noorazli Said about a Catholic priest and nun at the 2026 Umno General Assembly. The youth wing said the sexually suggestive joke, later linked to Psalm 129, trivialised religion and was especially sensitive in Sarawak, where many residents are Christian. It urged police to investigate professionally and impartially.

Ibraco launches NBX with 268 homes and a mall at The NorthBank, Kuching
Ibraco Berhad has launched NorthBank Business Exchange (NBX) at its 123-acre The NorthBank township in Kuching, adding 268 residential units, a neighbourhood mall and offices. A sheltered skybridge is planned to link the development to the future 300-bed Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching, which is targeted to open in 2029.

Fatimah Abdullah launches Estella Child Development Centre in Kuching
Sarawak's women, children and community wellbeing minister Fatimah Abdullah launched the Estella Child Development Centre in Kuching today. She urged parents and teachers to keep drawing out the talents of special-needs children so they can earn a living and stand on their own. Three held after meth-positive urine tests in Kuching and Bau raids
Three local men aged 19 to 40 were detained after testing positive for methamphetamine during an AADK Kuching anti-drug operation on Sept 14. The raids under 'Ops Cegah' covered Kampung Bijurey in Krokong, Taman Mutiara in Bau, Kampung Benuk and several areas around Kuching. They were arrested under Section 3(1) of Act 283 for further investigation.

Fahmi: Malaysia Day 2026 preparations at BCCK Kuching on track, media internet assured
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil inspected final preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Day celebrations at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday night and said they were satisfactory. He said internet coverage at BCCK is at an optimum level for media practitioners, with MCMC confirming all telco equipment is installed and working. About 5,000 people are expected at the 8.15pm event on Sept 16, to be graced by Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Mother and son escape house fire in Kenyalang Park, Kuching
Two people, Lewis Lau Lee Wei, 39, and his mother Yii Siew Chuo, 70, escaped a fire that broke out in their house at Lorong Sim Kheng Hong 2, Kenyalang Park, Kuching early this morning. A ground-floor room was 80 percent destroyed and the living room was 20 percent affected. The Padungan fire station put out the blaze and handed the two victims over to family members.

Abang Johari: Trust key to Sarawak's progress, RM685m given via UNIFOR
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said trust among Sarawak's people is as important as physical infrastructure for the state's development. Speaking at a Thanksgiving Ceremony for Other Religions at Pullman Hotel in Kuching on Monday, he noted RM685 million has been approved through UNIFOR since 2017 for non-Muslim houses of worship and mission schools.

Heart patient in Landeh gets food aid from Hope Place Kuching
A 48-year-old man in Landeh, Sarawak, who has heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure, is receiving basic food supplies from Hope Place Kuching after his wife and daughter disappeared last year and his savings were drained. He was recently discharged from the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan and is doing freelance translation work while awaiting monthly welfare aid.

Tun Jugah's son recalls Sarawak's path into Malaysia in 1963
Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Tun Jugah, 86, recalls listening to the Malaysia proclamation on radio in Nanga Gaat, Kapit, while his father Tun Jugah Barieng witnessed it at the Central Padang in Kuching on Sept 16, 1963. He describes how his father rallied 51 Iban headmen in Kapit in 1962 to back the formation of Malaysia ahead of the Cobbold Commission.

Cause of fish deaths along Sarawak River still unknown, says Dr Safiee
Hundreds of fish have been found dead along the Sarawak River waterfront, particularly around Kampung Boyan and Kampung Gersik in Kuching. The Sarawak Rivers Board, together with the state Agriculture Department and NREB, is awaiting laboratory results from water and fish samples taken on 12 and 14 September. The cause of the deaths has not yet been determined.

Siburan district proposal revived, RM5mil for multipurpose hall
A proposal to elevate Siburan in Sarawak to a full district has been revived, more than 10 years after it was first raised, citing its strategic location and growing population and economy. Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the Siburan area, including Tapah and Beratok, could become a satellite town for Kuching and Serian. He also said the Siburan Multipurpose Hall has received RM5 million from the Sarawak government for renovation, an occupancy permit and extra parking.

China national denies raping woman in Kuching, remanded at Puncak Borneo Prison

Sarawak targets 9 new OSEIC centres by 2030, RM30m for special needs centre in Samarahan
Sarawak plans to set up nine more One-Stop Early Intervention Centres (OSEIC) by 2030 to expand early intervention services for children with special needs. The state government has also approved RM30 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan for the first phase of the Sarawak Special Needs Community Centre in Samarahan, expected to be completed by May 2028. As of 31 December 2025, 745 children have received OSEIC services.

Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition opens at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching
A national-level Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition themed 'Koridor Zaman Pembentukan Malaysia' was launched at the Atrium Utama, Plaza Merdeka in Kuching today.
