Malaysia, Indonesia mark 70 years of diplomatic ties in 2027
Malaysia's embassy in Jakarta held a Malaysia Day reception on Tuesday night, with Charge d'Affaires Farzamie Sarkawi highlighting the close ties between the two countries ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Bilateral trade reached US$34.22 billion in 2025 and over 2.63 million Malaysian tourists visited Indonesia last year.

Malaysians stranded in Jakarta after their flight was cancelled due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau are paying an extra RM10,000 to return home via Surabaya. The family of Wan Nor Ridani will travel by car to Surabaya to catch a flight to Senai, as direct flights to Kuala Lumpur are fully booked. Airport operations remain suspended until 6pm today, causing severe congestion.
