78-year-old man missing in Selangau durian orchard found safe
A 78-year-old man reported missing after going to a durian orchard near Sungai Duat Bridge in Selangau, Sarawak was found safe today. Kaya Umbie left home around 8am yesterday and did not return, prompting his family to lodge a police report. Fire and Rescue personnel from Selangau who launched a search operation found he had been located by longhouse residents and taken to Selangau Clinic for a health check.

Rundi: Drugs and online gambling threaten rural families
Sarawak's Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, warned that drug abuse and online gambling are seriously affecting families in rural areas. He said pills are being sold to longhouse residents and online gambling is trapping people in debt. He spoke at a cheque presentation ceremony for the Kemena state constituency at the Bintulu Agriculture Department office on Thursday.

Longhouses that never applied for MRP funds in Kemena to be identified
In Bintulu, Sarawak minister Stephen Rundi Utom said longhouses that have never applied for Rural Minor Project (MRP) funds will be identified so they too can receive government aid. At a cheque handover at the Bintulu Agriculture Department office, 89 recipients received RM1.23 million in MRP allocations. He also said longhouse meetings must be held at least four times a year with minutes sent to the District Officer.

Nine crosses representing Malaysia's Catholic dioceses and archdioceses were joined into one Cross at Sibu Gateway on Wednesday night, opening the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026. National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang opened the first Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu today, telling about 850 Catholic delegates from nine dioceses that religious communities must help build national unity. He said government policy alone cannot achieve unity and urged faith groups to move from tolerance to understanding, respect, trust and cooperation.

Foreign oil palm worker arrested in Mukah with drugs hidden in cigarette box
A 35-year-old foreign oil palm plantation worker was arrested in a raid along Jalan Mukah-Selangau in Mukah after police found drugs hidden in a cigarette box. Police seized 10.83 grams of methamphetamine valued at RM540, and the suspect tested positive for drugs. He is remanded for two days and investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Immigration Act.

Stolen Miri motorcycle found in Ulu Penipah; two foreign workers arrested
Police in Mukah arrested two foreign oil palm plantation workers on Sunday night after recovering a motorcycle reported stolen in Miri. The suspects, aged 40 and 27, were also found to have used drugs and lacked valid travel documents. They have been remanded until Sept 10 for investigation.
