Sarawak targets full ePASS rollout to replace paper timber transfer passes by June 2027
Sarawak aims to fully enforce the Electronic Transfer Pass (ePASS) statewide by June 2027, replacing paper-based timber transfer passes with a traceable digital format. The system, developed under the Sarawak Timber and Forest Revenue Tracking System (REVLOG), was launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Kuching and will roll out in three phases starting January 2027 in Kapit, Sibu and Sarikei.

Abang Johari: Sabah, Sarawak must hold one-third of parliamentary seats

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called for religious sensitivities to be respected after an UMNO leader's remark involving Catholic clergy and Christian scripture. He said the person responsible should withdraw the remark and apologise to the Christian community, and separately handed a RM100,000 UNIFOR grant to Christ Baptist Church in Kuching.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil made a courtesy call on Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri Sarawak in Kuching to present an official invitation to the Malaysia Day celebration. Fatimah Abdullah launches Estella Child Development Centre in Kuching
Sarawak's women, children and community wellbeing minister Fatimah Abdullah launched the Estella Child Development Centre in Kuching today. She urged parents and teachers to keep drawing out the talents of special-needs children so they can earn a living and stand on their own. Fahmi: Malaysia Day 2026 preparations at BCCK Kuching on track, media internet assured
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil inspected final preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Day celebrations at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday night and said they were satisfactory. He said internet coverage at BCCK is at an optimum level for media practitioners, with MCMC confirming all telco equipment is installed and working. About 5,000 people are expected at the 8.15pm event on Sept 16, to be graced by Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari: Trust key to Sarawak's progress, RM685m given via UNIFOR
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said trust among Sarawak's people is as important as physical infrastructure for the state's development. Tun Jugah's son recalls Sarawak's path into Malaysia in 1963
Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Tun Jugah, 86, recalls listening to the Malaysia proclamation on radio in Nanga Gaat, Kapit, while his father Tun Jugah Barieng witnessed it at the Central Padang in Kuching on Sept 16, 1963. He describes how his father rallied 51 Iban headmen in Kapit in 1962 to back the formation of Malaysia ahead of the Cobbold Commission.

Sarawak halal certificates now total 1,256, JAIS says
Sarawak has 1,256 halal certificate holders to date, with more than 20 certificates approved today, according to the state Islamic Religious Department's Halal Division. Its head, Ustaz Jamaludin Taim, said 71 per cent of applications are completed within the 30-day KPI, and blamed delays on cleanliness, kitchen practices and difficulty sourcing items such as gelatin and food colouring. He spoke after a certificate handover ceremony at iCafe Sarawak Chinese Muslim Seafood in Kuching.

Sarawak launched its Bioeconomy Roadmap at the close of the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 at Imperial Hotel, Kuching. State Minister Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the roadmap, developed with SRDC and BioVerde Technologies, aims to strengthen industry-research links and speed up commercialisation. Sarawak Energy is reviewing 24 electricity bill complaints that went viral on social media and has contacted the affected customers. SESCO chief executive Yusri Safri said each case is assessed on its own circumstances and adjustments or waivers may be made where warranted. Special bill counters are open in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu throughout September.
