Ex-property consultant jailed 10 years, fined RM228mil for graft
The Court of Appeal in Johor Bahru sentenced former real estate consultant Amir Shariffuddin Abd Raub to 10 years in jail and a fine of nearly RM228 million. The court overturned his earlier acquittal on 33 corruption and four money laundering charges. The bench found that his claim the money was consultancy fees was unsupported by evidence.

British man gets 5-day detention for pushing Grab driver in Clementi
A 23-year-old British national was sentenced to a five-day short detention order and 100 hours of community service for using criminal force on a private-hire driver in Clementi. The incident occurred in June 2024 after the man, who was drunk, pushed the 66-year-old driver, who later died of unrelated causes.

Mother sues Singapore preschool over son's slide injury, alleges teachers were on phones
A woman is suing her son's preschool in Singapore for negligence after he was pushed off a 75cm-high indoor slide by another student in July 2024. The trial opened in the State Courts on Monday, with the mother claiming teachers were distracted by their phones and that no safety mats were under the slide. A gag order protects the identities of the family and the preschool.

Activist Jolovan Wham was handed five fresh charges on Sep 7 for allegedly organising an assembly at the State Courts and taking part in candlelight vigils near Changi Prison. He also faces a charge for refusing to answer questions at Bedok Police Division. The case has been adjourned for a pre-trial conference.

Court orders YTL Construction to pay RM180,000 for Johor surau flooding
The High Court in Johor Bahru has ordered YTL Construction to pay RM180,000 in damages for negligence and private nuisance. The company's temporary culvert works caused repeated flooding at Surau Ar Rahman and adjoining land from November 2020 to April 2022.

PHV driver fined S$650 for touting at HarbourFront Centre taxi stand
A private-hire vehicle driver was fined S$650 for loitering and soliciting passengers at the HarbourFront Centre taxi point. Steven Gan Teck Guan was found guilty after a judge ruled he had touted for a S$65 fare in March 2024. He is out on bail pending an appeal.

Van driver jailed 14 years for running over fellow contraband dealer in Kaki Bukit
A 51-year-old Singaporean van driver, Toh Sze Ee, was sentenced to 14 years' jail on Wednesday for causing grievous hurt to a cyclist in Kaki Bukit Avenue 5. The victim, a Bangladeshi man, later died in Bangladesh. The charge was downgraded from attempted murder during the trial.
