Man arrested for injuring girlfriend with parang and pallet wood in Kabong oil palm estate
A 50-year-old man was arrested in Saratok after allegedly injuring his girlfriend with pallet wood and brandishing a parang at an oil palm estate in Kampung Nyabor, Kabong, last Thursday. The 35-year-old victim suffered injuries to her finger, hand and body after rejecting the suspect's marriage proposal. The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and the case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code.

AADK Sibu held a drug awareness talk and exhibition at SK Nanga Assan, Sibu, on Friday. The programme at the school's computer lab involved over 70 teachers and pupils as an early prevention measure. Participants learned about the health, legal and social harms of drug abuse.

580kg crocodile caught in Batang Igan after disturbing fishing nets
A 580kg crocodile measuring 4.32 metres was captured in the Sebedil area of Batang Igan, Sarawak, early Thursday morning. The operation was launched after residents complained the reptile had been disturbing their fishing nets. A licensed hunter and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation took part in the joint operation.

Driver gets 10 years, RM50,000 fine for drink-driving death in Bintangor
A 57-year-old man was sentenced by the Sarikei Magistrates' Court to 10 years' jail and a RM50,000 fine for causing the death of a motorcyclist while driving under the influence of alcohol. The collision happened at Mile 4 Jalan Lasi in Bintangor on May 5, when the pickup truck he was driving went out of control on a bend and hit the motorcycle. The victim was taken to Julau polyclinic but died the same day.

Man charged in Sibu with murder of five-year-old, faces drug count
A 49-year-old man was charged at the Magistrates' Court in Sibu on Thursday with murdering a five-year-old boy at a house in Rantau Panjang Jaya on Aug 28. He also faces a separate drug charge for self-administering amphetamine and methamphetamine at Sibu Central Police Station. The case was fixed for Oct 22 pending forensic and psychiatric reports and the Public Prosecutor's consent.

78-year-old woman missing after going to farm in Durin
A 78-year-old woman, Monica Delima Ubong, was reported missing after failing to return to her longhouse at Rumah Philip Kayak, Durin, Sibu. A search and rescue operation by the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station and police is under way after initial searches around the longhouse and farm failed to find her.
