MMA president: retaining doctors is top priority
The Malaysian Medical Association's new president, Dr Sivanaesan Letchumanan, said retaining doctors in the public healthcare system is the association's top priority. Speaking at the MMA annual banquet in Ipoh, he called for better career progression, working conditions and specialisation pathways, and urged the government to use private GPs more in tackling non-communicable diseases.

Ipoh mechanic photographs Kinta Valley limestone hills before they vanish
In Ipoh, 43-year-old mechanic Ching Boon Tat has spent years photographing the limestone hills, caves and rivers of the Kinta Valley, fearing they could disappear. He founded Kinta Valley Watch in 2018 to document the landscape and raise awareness, and says his photographs are a record of what was there.

Ipoh seminar hears survivors recall life under Japanese Occupation
Four survivors of the Japanese Occupation of Malaya spoke at a seminar at the Peace Gallery in Ipoh on Aug 15, held to mark the end of World War 2 and to promote peace and anti-fascism. The event also marked the opening of the gallery's Chinese section, with China's Vice-Consul General in Penang, Ding Qiao, as guest of honour. Survivors including 93-year-old Chong Su Ha described hunger, fear and violence they witnessed as children.

Sarawak bowling produces more talent for national elite squad
Sarawak's Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said the state's bowling development is showing positive results with more local athletes in line for the national elite squad. He spoke at the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships (SIOTBC) 2026 in Kuching today, which gives young Sarawak players international exposure.

At the UMNO General Assembly 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi allowed a man carrying a 'Justice for Najib Razak' placard onto the stage during his closing speech. Zahid also expressed sadness over the Pardons Board's decision to postpone Najib Razak's pardon application, and UMNO hopes it will be considered at a future meeting.

SPA denies blocking walk-in nurses from leaving after contract ends
Public Services Commission chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus said no restrictions are imposed on nurses hired through walk-in interviews who want to move to the private sector or work abroad once their contracts end. Left lane at KM263.6 southbound reopens after slope declared safe
The left lane at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound, about two kilometres after the Menora Tunnel, reopened to all vehicles from 1pm today after the slope was declared safe. Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said repair work on the slope will continue. A landslide occurred at 4.30pm yesterday during heavy rain, forcing the lane to be closed temporarily.

Landslide near Menora Tunnel on NSE; all lanes reopened
A landslide occurred at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound, about 2km past the Menora Tunnel, yesterday afternoon. The left lane was temporarily closed and all lanes were reopened to motorists at 7pm after clean-up works. No injuries or property damage were reported, and PLUS Malaysia and authorities are monitoring the slope.

The left lane at KM 263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound has been closed after a landslide near the Menora Tunnel heading towards Ipoh. Tanah Rata hit by flash floods after three hours of heavy rain
Flash floods struck several areas in Tanah Rata, Pahang, after almost three hours of heavy rain this afternoon, affecting five to six houses at the Golden Hills housing estate and near the Mardi agro technology park. A minor landslide was also reported along Jalan Tengkolok. No injuries were reported, and assemblyman Ho Chi Yang said he will discuss assistance for affected families and measures to clear clogged drains and rivers.

Japan health minister visits Perkeso rehabilitation centre in Ipoh

Malaysian woman held in New Delhi, 15kg cannabis seized
A 22-year-old Malaysian woman from Perak was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on 4 September after 30 plastic packets containing more than 15kg of cannabis were found in her trolley bag. She arrived from Kuala Lumpur on Batik Air flight OD205 and has a prior drug-related record, and remains in Indian custody.

The High Court in Tapah ordered Perak executive councillor A. Sivanesan to pay RM3,000 in costs after allowing former Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy's application to transfer the defamation suit to the Butterworth Sessions Court. Sivanesan sued Satees over a TikTok video uploaded in June last year that he says portrayed him as unfit for public office.

Perak: residents' associations need approval before hiring security guards
Residents' associations in Perak cannot appoint or train security guards for Community Security Schemes without approval and compliance with regulations. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the state is focusing on education and giving associations time to correct shortcomings before enforcement. First azan and recitation contest for Orang Asli children in Pos Lenjang

Ex-KPTM Ipoh administrator faces six charges over female students
A former administrator of Kolej Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM) in Ipoh was charged in court with six offences involving alleged criminal force against two female students and obscene words against four others. Roykarnaen Maseri, 44, pleaded not guilty to all charges, which were allegedly committed at the college and other locations in Ipoh between June and August. The court set bail at RM8,000.
