Sarawak village heads told to watch over KKDW solar LED lights
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang asked community and village heads to monitor solar LED street lights under the KKDW Sejahtera Project to prevent theft and vandalism. Two children weep as mother Debra Moset is buried after Ulu Baram helicopter crash
Debra Moset, 40, was buried at St Patrick Christian Cemetery in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, today. Her children Euodia Then Suling, 15, and Eugene Then Kuling, 12, wept as they followed the funeral. Debra was among five killed when a Health Ministry air doctor helicopter crashed near Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, last Tuesday.

59 Indonesians detained in Ops Sapu raids around Kuching
Malaysian Immigration in Sarawak detained 59 Indonesian nationals in Ops Sapu at three locations around Kuching city from 12 September to yesterday. A total of 92 individuals were screened, with those held suspected of various immigration offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63. All detainees were taken for further action.

Sarawak International Open tenpin bowling ends with 663 entries
The 8th Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships concluded in Kuching on Saturday, drawing 663 entries across five divisions from Malaysia and seven other countries. Man in Serian loses RM11,800 to Facebook car-sale scam
A 34-year-old man in Serian, Sarawak lost RM11,800 after being tricked by a car sale advertisement on Facebook. He made four transactions to two different accounts before suspecting a scam and lodging a police report. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Police arrest woman, 22, over unlicensed Kuching entertainment centre
Kuching police arrested a 22-year-old woman during a raid on an unlicensed entertainment centre along Jalan Lapangan Terbang late Friday night. Separately, a 41-year-old man died after his car crashed into a roadside ditch along Jalan Sungai Moyan early Saturday.

Lorry falls into drain at Jalan Mendu after unauthorised structure collapses, MBKS reminds owners to get approval
A seven-tonne lorry fell into a drain at Jalan Mendu in Kuching on Friday morning when an unauthorised structure covering the drain collapsed under its weight. Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who inspected the site, reminded property owners to obtain approval before building structures over public drains, citing Section 136 of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. The driver was not injured.

Sarawak takes 5,000 health worker shortfall to JPA
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said 18 per cent of health sector posts in the state, over 5,000 positions, remain unfilled. The matter has been raised with the Public Service Department and in MA63 talks, including a proposal for a special task force on local recruitment. SCCS Childhood Cancer Walk moved to Nov 7 after haze postponement

Serian schools reopen tomorrow as haze eases, Lubok Antu stays on PdPR
Schools under the Serian District Education Office in Sarawak will resume normal operations from Sept 14 after air quality improved, the state education department said. Schools under Lubok Antu will continue home-based learning, while the other 12 district education offices in the state also reopen. Face masks will be distributed to affected schools and outdoor activities remain suspended when the API exceeds 100.

Lab results awaited after mass fish deaths in Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront
Large numbers of fish were found dead along the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront and Kampung Gersik-Boyan on Saturday morning. State agencies including NREB, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have taken water and fish samples for laboratory analysis. Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the cause cannot yet be speculated on and promised a thorough investigation.
