Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah closed 322 days for Mutiara LRT works
MRT Corp announced that Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in George Town will have a 322-day traffic diversion from Sept 12, 2026 to July 31, 2027 for piling and structural works on the Mutiara Line LRT. Jalan Magazine will also be partially closed from 10pm on Sept 14 to 5am on Oct 5 for road widening and utility relocation.

Chinese national pleads not guilty to kidnapping compatriot in Alor Setar
A 27-year-old Chinese man, Wang Hao, pleaded not guilty at the Alor Setar Sessions Court to kidnapping a 33-year-old Chinese woman at a house in Taman Amira, Jalan Langgar, on Aug 7. The judge denied bail and set Oct 11 for mention. The case follows an Aug 8 police raid in which two suspects were shot dead and six people were arrested across Kedah, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Lorry driver charged with physical sexual assault of stepdaughter in Kulim
A 33-year-old lorry driver pleaded not guilty at the Kulim Sessions Court to a charge of physical sexual assault against his 17-year-old stepdaughter. The alleged offence took place at a house in Kulim between 3 and 13 October last year, and the court refused bail, setting 22 October for mention.

Contract worker pleads guilty to snatching RM10,000 gold chain in Arau
A contract worker pleaded guilty at the Kangar Magistrate's Court to robbing and injuring an elderly woman while snatching a gold chain worth RM10,000 at a house in Bumbung Lima, Arau on 5 September. Wan Afandi Wan Salehudin, 26, was granted RM6,000 bail with one surety, and sentencing is set for 23 September.

Court of Appeal upholds RM920,508 award against Penang condo developer over defects
The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya dismissed Melariang Sdn Bhd's appeal against a High Court order to pay RM920,508 over defects at The Cantonment condominium in Jalan Cantonment, George Town. The defects included 101 missing fire doors, a wet riser room, pool leakage and car park water ponding. The developer must also pay RM50,000 in appeal costs.

Four Chinese nationals plead not guilty to kidnapping Singaporean man at Penang airport
Four Chinese nationals pleaded not guilty in the Balik Pulau Sessions Court to kidnapping a Singaporean man at Penang International Airport on 26 July. They are accused of demanding a S$1 million ransom, and the court denied bail while the case is set for mention on 15 October.

Man found bound in septic tank, five remanded four days
In Nibong Tebal, Penang, the body of a man in his 50s was found with hands and feet bound inside a septic tank behind a terrace house in Taman Seri Bistari. Five individuals including a woman were remanded for four days starting today by Magistrate J Savinder Singh in Bukit Mertajam under Section 365 of the Penal Code. RM30,000 in cash was allegedly transferred from the victim's bank account to a grocery shop in Sungai Bakap before the incident was reported.

Penang FC beat Melaka 3-1 to set up Piala FA quarter-final with JDT
Penang FC advanced to the Piala FA 2026-27 quarter-finals after beating Melaka FC 3-1 on aggregate at Stadium Bandaraya in George Town. Coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail said his side will not hand defending champions JDT an easy passage in the last eight.
