A 48-year-old man died after falling into a 3-metre-deep septic tank pit under construction in Taman Permai, Temit, Kota Tinggi. Fire and rescue personnel from Kota Baru recovered the body; health ministry medics confirmed he had already died. The body was handed to police for further action.

Data centre boom spills into construction, power and tech supply chain
Malaysia's data centre capacity could reach eight to nine gigawatts by 2030, opening an RM128 billion to RM162 billion market for mechanical and electrical works, analysts say. About 3.8GW is already under construction or backed by signed power agreements, with contractors such as Kerjaya Prospek, Gamuda and IJM Corp among those winning work, including an RM858 million fit-out contract in Iskandar Puteri.

Lien Heng Cup lion dance championship returns to Kuching Sept 26-27 with RM25,500 prize pool
The Lien Heng Cup-Lien Heng Lion Dance Open Championship 2026 will be held on Sept 26 and 27 at The Hills in Kuching, offering RM25,500 in prizes including RM8,000 for the champion. Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said at least 23 teams from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore are expected, with organisers targeting 30. A 'Lion Spirit' photography competition with professional camera, mobile phone and short video categories will run alongside.

HDB playground design guidelines take effect, Woodlands upgrades under way
Singapore's Housing Board released playground design guidelines in December 2025 setting mandatory features for playgrounds in new Build-To-Order estates and those being redesigned or upgraded, including HDB public parks. The rules group play into physical, creative and social categories, and the first playground built to them, the Kingfisher, is coming to 628 Woodlands Ring Road as part of an estate upgrade. Other Woodlands playgrounds, including a chicken-themed one at 619 Woodlands Drive 52 and a crab tower at 631 Woodlands Ring Road, are also planned.

Property agent flags repeated unauthorised entry into Woodlands flat under renovation
A property agent has raised concerns after people believed to be neighbours allegedly entered a Woodlands flat under renovation on two separate occasions, taking photos and walking through the kitchen and rooms. The agent posted footage on TikTok on Sep. 3 asking whether the behaviour amounts to trespassing, and said workers who told them off were ignored.

Court orders 4 defendants in Kim Kim pollution case to pay RM100,000 costs to 171 victims
The Civil High Court in Johor Bahru ruled that 171 victims of the 2019 Sungai Kim Kim toxic waste pollution have won their civil suit against four defendants, including a tyre processing factory. The court ordered the defendants to pay RM100,000 in legal costs, while compensation claims totaling RM33 million are still pending assessment.

Woman seeks public's help to find husband missing since Sept 6 in Johor
A woman in Kulai is appealing for help to find her husband, Mohammad Nazrizal Basiron, 32, who has been missing since Sept 6. Both parties have agreed to withdraw their police reports, with mediation from the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru. The court has set the 18th of this month for a further decision.

Scammer posing as director tricks Johor Baru admin into transferring RM110,000
A 43-year-old company administrator in Johor Baru was duped into transferring RM110,000 of company funds after receiving a call from a scammer posing as her director. Police are investigating whether deepfake technology was used to mimic the director's voice. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
