Empty house at Sundar government quarters destroyed in fire
An unoccupied house at Block A of the Sundar government quarters in Lawas, Sarawak, was about 90 percent destroyed in a fire last night. The fire was reported around 8pm and the Lawas fire station arrived at 8.29pm. No victims were involved and the fire was brought under control by 9pm.

Lawas hospital project to be handed over Sept 14, says Awang Tengah
The new Lawas District Hospital is expected to be handed over to the Public Works and Health Ministries on Sept 14, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said during a site inspection on Tuesday. He said the facility, which includes a 17-station dialysis unit, will improve healthcare access for Lawas residents and reduce the need to seek treatment outside the district.

Lawas District Office displays EC notice on proposed Sarawak constituency changes
The Lawas District Office has put on public display the Election Commission's notice of proposed redelineation for Sarawak state constituencies. The notice, available for inspection from September 1 to 30, includes a proposal to add 17 new state seats and rename the Ba Kelalan constituency to Gunong Murud.

Lawas teachers showcase Canva Code innovations
Ten teams of teachers from SK Agama (MIS) in Lawas showcased interactive teaching innovations built with Canva Code at the Canva Classroom Innovation Showcase 2026 on Aug 28. The event, which followed a two-month mentorship programme, saw Group 9 emerge as champion and win a RM1,000 cash prize.
