UPM overall champions of SUKIPT 2026, Sultan of Selangor congratulates
Universiti Putra Malaysia won the overall title at SUKIPT 2026 with 35 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals, ahead of UiTM and hosts Universiti Malaya. The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as UPM Chancellor, congratulated the contingent. Two other attackers were sentenced to seven years' jail after a prosecution appeal.

MAIS brings Bidayuh customs to diaspora in Peninsular Malaysia
The Sarawak Native Customs Council (MAIS) held an outreach programme to bring the Bidayuh Adat 1994 closer to Bidayuh communities outside Sarawak. The event at Hotel Melia on Saturday (Sept 12) was co-organised with the Klang Valley branch of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association and drew 50 participants. Universiti Malaya researchers turn prawn shells into biodegradable plastic film
Researchers at Universiti Malaya's Faculty of Engineering have converted discarded prawn shells into chitosan, a natural biopolymer, and used it with starch to produce biodegradable plastic films. In soil burial tests, the films began visibly degrading after three weeks and had substantially broken down by the fourth. The work links two Malaysian waste problems - food waste and plastic waste - but the material is still far from commercial use.

RM350,000 to upgrade roads and lifts at Bandar Tasik Selatan flats
The government has allocated RM350,000 to upgrade road structures at the Bandar Tasik Selatan low-cost flats in Kuala Lumpur under the 2026 Projek Mesra Rakyat initiative. The flats' lifts will also be repaired, and a RM72,000 Flexi EV Charging station with four chargers was launched at the same event. Sabah's 56-member ITF Taekwon-Do contingent, represented by three clubs, returned with 31 medals from the Hwa Rang Warrior Asia Cup 2026 held at Stadium Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 4 to 6. They finished 16th among 59 teams with four golds, 10 silvers and 17 bronzes. Contingent chief Osmaiza Osman said the initial target of 10 golds was not met but praised the athletes, coaches and officials for their commitment.
